You can probably find numerous ways to reuse plastic water bottles in the garden and around the home. These convenient containers are the perfect size for handling much more beyond your favorite beverages, and being made of common lightweight plastics like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE), they're more durable and versatile than their "single-use" label suggests. You can use them for a variety of projects that will make life easier without costing a dime. For example, YouTube channel Frugal Creative Living offers a neat DIY showing how, instead of tossing your empty water bottles into the recycling bin, you could save a collection and consider using them to organize your bathroom essentials. The bottles can be cut into mini barrels and reused for wall storage. Combine the empty plastic water bottles with your favorite fabric (even an old shirt or bedsheet will do) and a few pieces of ribbon, and you've got yourself a nifty, budget-friendly bathroom storage option that takes less than 30 minutes to create.

Your daily personal care items, like soap bars, washcloths, and hair gels, can easily slide into these handy storage additions for quick retrieval. If you're looking for ways to quickly add more storage to your bathroom, this hack is definitely one to bookmark. It's not completely concealed, but it's definitely a discreet solution to help you subtly fill bare sections on your bathroom walls or take advantage of underused and hidden spaces in a small bathroom you're forgetting to maximize, such as above the toilet or behind a cabinet door.

Creating and customizing your DIY bathroom storage holders

Before taking on another bathroom storage hack to keep your items together, be sure that you have a pair of scissors and a strong fabric adhesive, such as Aleene's Super Fabric Adhesive. First, take three empty plastic water bottles (or more, depending on your design), and cut off the bottom and the top sections. When removing the top, cut it where the bottle starts to narrow; you only want to keep the widest section of the bottle. After cutting, you should have a cylinder shape.

Next, measure and cut your fabric so it wraps fully around one of the bottle pieces. Then, cut a piece for the other two water bottles. Wrap a piece of fabric around each bottle, tucking the excess inside the cylinder. You can also staple this excess fabric to secure it. Next, glue the three cut bottles together on their sides. Thread your ribbon through the top bottle, and hang the holder on a hook or nail on your bathroom wall.

Coordinate your new storage holders with your bathroom by using fabrics that blend with the decor — you could even use different colors or patterns for each bottle. Instead of using ribbon, you could also consider rope or even hanging wire to mount the holders for a boho-inspired or metro-chic appeal. Perhaps attach small labels using staples or glue to the front of the holders for added charm and to remember the contents of each holder. You may even consider mounting your holders on a decorative backboard or frame to level-up this idea and give it an extra bit of style.
