The Dollar Tree Cutting Board Hack That Makes Folding A Breeze

Having perfectly folded clothes can help create a sense of order and calm in your life, making your space feel cleaner and more inviting. It can also help maximize drawer and closet space, giving you more room while also keeping everything tidy and accessible. Plus, neatly folded clothes are less likely to wrinkle, which can save you time, effort, and money compared to fluffing clothes in the dryer before wearing them. Folding boards are a great way to get perfectly folded shirts, sweaters, and pants, and DIYing these nifty laundry tools is a popular thing to do.

Often, you will hear about people using a piece of cardboard to make a folding board. While this is a great idea, there is a way to make a sturdier version. This hack comes to you from the same store as so many other great DIYs — Dollar Tree. To make your own sturdy folding board, you will be attaching six Dollar Tree cutting boards with duct tape. This is a quick and straightforward hack that doesn't require any tools or hardware — just the tape and the cutting boards.

What makes this Dollar Tree cutting board DIY work so well is that the duct tape is sturdy and flexible, and the cutting boards provide a little bit of weight, ensuring that your clothes are flat and smooth. Also, no permanent modifications are being made to the cutting boards. So, if you no longer need the clothes folder, you can remove the tape and use the cutting boards for something else.

How to make a folding board from Dollar Tree cutting boards

To make your folding board, grab six Cooking Concepts cutting boards from Dollar Tree or similar plastic cutting boards. Next, position two cutting boards side by side, ensuring their bottom edges are in contact. Secure them together by applying duct tape to the touching edges on both the front and back, allowing for a slight amount of slack to facilitate the boards' folding onto each other. Repeat this step with the remaining boards, forming three of these two-board units. Now, line up the units and apply strips of tape to connect the top row of three cutting boards. When you are finished, you should have one row of three boards connected with tape that can only fold downward as a single, three-board unit, and one row of three boards that can fold upward individually. To use the folding board, lay your clothing flat against the unit in the center, fold each side inward (one at a time), and then fold the bottom middle panel upward. You should end up with a perfectly folded piece of clothing. After use, fold the unit up and tuck it away.

If you like this Dollar Tree cutting board hack but want something sturdier, you can use zip ties to connect the cutting boards instead of duct tape. For this, you will need to drill two or three evenly spaced holes near the edges of the cutting boards where they would otherwise be connected with tape. Then, thread the zip ties through, ensuring they aren't too tightly connected and that the locking heads are positioned on the back side of the folding board.
