The Budget-Friendly Way To Give Dollar Tree's Wire Pumpkins A Major Upgrade

Fall is a season that has many of us jumping for joy. Between the cooler weather, colorful leaves, and the pumpkin flavors everywhere — it's no wonder people can't contain themselves. If you're a fan of festive decor, Dollar Tree carries an adorable pumpkin wreath form that's perfect for DIY projects. The sky's the limit when it comes to decorating it, but you can do so on a budget using paper lunch bags.

Dollar Tree's Pumpkin-Shaped Wreath Form is only $1.50 and you can find it at various locations. Since they also sell other fall items, like faux leaves and ribbon, it's easy to transform the pumpkin's bare bones into a cozy fall wreath using a few Dollar Tree essentials. Or, simply grab their Home Store Brown Paper Lunch Bags, along with a hot glue gun and some paint. The main goal is to create a rustic-looking pumpkin by wrapping crinkled paper around the wire. You can keep it plain, or embellish it with a few special touches.

How to bring your wire pumpkin to life

Start by cutting the bottoms of the lunch bags off, followed by the sides. Now, add glue to the end of one of the bags, and attach another one to it, essentially creating a long piece of paper. Take the attached bags and start scrunching the piece up. It should look like a long crinkled branch. Next, add glue to a vertical wire on the pumpkin form. Hold the paper "branch" and attach it to the wire by wrapping it around, using your fingers to get it to stick. Just be careful, as the glue will be hot! Once you get to the end, you can wrap the edge of the paper around the top, then attach it with a drop of glue. Repeat these steps until all of the vertical wires of the pumpkin are covered.

Next, glue three bags together, which you'll use to wrap around the outside of the wreath form. Start at the top, attaching the wadded pieces in the same way as the vertical wires. Do this until the entire perimeter is covered. Continue gluing lunch bags together to create several more long pieces. Only this time, weave them through the pumpkin wires horizontally for a basket-weave look. Just make sure to crinkle them as you go, and cut off any extra paper at the ends. Glue two more sets of bags together and attach them to the top. Scrunch and twist them together to create a stem.

Time to decorate your new friend

The pumpkin should look darling already being the color brown, especially if you like rustic pumpkin decorations. Or, you can give it a classic look by painting it with traditional colors. Spray paint the base orange and the stem a darker brown — or just leave the stem the color of the lunch bags. After it's dry, you can either hang it up on your front door, or add some additional flair with Dollar Tree items like Decorative Acorns, Harvest Flowers, and Decorative Mesh. Make a bow for your pumpkin and adorn it with a few fall-inspired details.

If you want to create another piece of elegant pumpkin decor, grab an additional Pumpkin-Shaped Wreath Form, large wooden beads, and some twine. Wrap the twine around the stem of the wreath, and also around the entire outside wire. Then, carefully cut the vertical wires at the top and thread on the wooden beads. After the wires are all fully covered with the beads, attach them back to the base with glue. It will be a unique farmhouse pumpkin that would look charming any place you put it. Don't you just love fall?
