The Bathroom Flooring You Can Actually Clean With Shampoo

The bathroom is one of the spaces in the home that requires the most attention when it comes to cleaning. It's important to know how to deep clean your bathroom and keep it clean over time. With so much moisture and buildup that happens on the walls and other surfaces, it's no surprise that the floors can use some extra TLC as well. Two of the most popular types of floors that are installed in bathrooms are linoleum and ceramic tile. They are each strong and durable, meaning they will stand up to the demands of the bathroom space and commonly last a long time. Linoleum and ceramic tile floors are often chosen for bathrooms, as they have resistance against water and antimicrobial properties that prevent the growth of bacteria. This makes both types of floors a great choice for those who prioritize cleanliness. 

The construction of these floors is more impressive than we thought because, in a pinch, they can be cleaned with a bathroom staple you may have never thought of. It turns out that shampoo can clean linoleum and ceramic floors. Shampoo is a simple product that may not be a part of your typical maintenance routine, but it can serve as a quick cleaning fix, especially if you're not cleaning your bathroom floor often enough. Shampoo can be used as more than simply soap for your hair, but as a cleaner for your bathroom floors as well. 

Shampoo has the duality to clean hair as well as flooring to keep things fresh. The properties that keep hair shiny and healthy will keep linoleum and ceramic floors free of debris. What better way to clean the bathroom than with an item that is likely already sitting in your shower? Shampoo products are light and gentle on surfaces. Use a natural shampoo without conditioner or harsh chemicals, or like baby shampoo. The mild formula of baby shampoos makes it less likely to cause discoloration on your flooring, and it also won't foam as much. This is especially useful for ceramic and linoleum floors, as they both include natural ingredients that can be damaged if exposed to chemical cleaners that are too harsh. 

When mopping linoleum floors, start small by adding a tablespoon of the product to your mop bucket that is full of water. Submerge the mop in the solution and carry it across the floor as normal. Rinse the floor and dry it to make sure the shampoo does not leave behind residue.

Ceramic floors don't only require cleaning on the tile surface but also on the grout that surrounds the tile. To keep the grout looking clean and like new, apply a dab of shampoo onto a toothbrush. Run the toothbrush under a bit of lukewarm water to get the cleaning properties going, then use the toothbrush to scrub the grout lines surrounding the ceramic tile. Instead of a toothbrush, you can also use pot scrubbers as an HGTV-approved cleaning hack.
