The Furniture Choice That May Make Your Kitchen Look Outdated

Kitchens are one of the most significant rooms in any home, acting as a central area for cooking, gathering, and sharing meals with family and friends. What's trendy in kitchen design has evolved and currently favors more open-concept designs better suited for entertaining. Older kitchen designs sometimes incorporate desks, meant to be used as a surface for mail, electronics, and extra counter space. You might even use the desk for writing, or as a place for your kids to complete their homework. However, kitchen desks have become far less popular — in this "work-from-home era," they don't make a ton of sense. Many people opt to work from a home office instead, and homeowners are starting to rethink their kitchen desk due to its outdated feel.

Rather than removing the kitchen desk altogether, you may want to reconsider your home space and find a more practical use for the catchall writing desk within your house. Maybe you can lower the top to create a mudroom space to store jackets and shoes or make it a location for feeding and storing your pet's food. Finally, if your kitchen desk is built in and can't be moved, it's very easy to utilize what's there already as extra counterspace. You can even use the desk as a phone charging station or to hold your mail and pay bills.
