Create A Chic Light-Up Thanksgiving Centerpiece Using Affordable Dollar Tree Materials

As the weather starts getting colder and you pull out your collection of comfy, campfire sweaters in preparation for autumn, it often seems most people are focused on ramping up for Halloween. But there's so much more to love about the fall season than just one night of spooky fun. The leaves are changing, you're almost done growing your late-summer garden for a fall harvest, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And you can't prep your home to host the perfect Thanksgiving without some chic centerpieces. Luckily, you don't have to break the bank to get them either. It's easy to make your own stylish light-up Thanksgiving centerpiece using affordable materials from Dollar Tree (or any other low-priced craft store, like Hobby Lobby or Walmart).

TikToker @ashleymariesavage_ needed only a few materials to make this DIY work, most of which you may find for cheap at Dollar Tree. All it takes to get started is two different-sized cylindrical vases (one wide vase and a narrower vase that can nest in the center of it), string lights, and fall-themed foliage. Dollar Tree usually has battery-powered fairy lights, such as LED String Lights, and various faux flowers and foliage fit for the fall season, including these Floral Gardens Fall Burlap Gerber Daisy. The basic idea is that one vase holding the lights will sit in the middle of the larger vase. Filling the gap between the walls of the two vases with autumnal elements and putting flowers in the smaller vase makes a gorgeous DIY display. With light emerging from its center, it becomes an addition that will be sure to capture anyone's attention.

How to make an affordable light-up Thanksgiving centerpiece

Get started on this DIY by picking out your favorite fall foliage. If you want to get really fun with it, you can add little pumpkins, wheat, or other fall-themed items to the flower bouquet. You will also want separate fill material to put in the gap between the smaller and larger vase. You could use pine cones, twigs, acorns, leaves, or anything else that works with your theme. The string lights will shine through this layer from behind, so make sure you leave some gaps for it to break through. Dollar Tree also carries cylindrical vases, such as this 8 ½-inch-tall and 3 ½-inch-wide Clear Glass Cylinder Vase, that work perfectly for this craft. Place it inside a 6- or 7-inch-wide glass vase (such as the 6-inch-wide Glass Cylinder Vase at Hobby Lobby for $5.99), and you'll have a gap an inch or so deep around it to hold your fill.

Assembling your Thanksgiving centerpiece so it lights up is simple. To start, attach the end of your string lights to the outside bottom of the smaller vase. Wrap it around the outside all the way up, leaving enough slack to place the battery pack in the vase for easy access when you want to turn it on and off. Alternatively, you could bundle up the string lights into a messy bunch and place them directly inside the vase. Then, place the smaller vase in the center of the larger vase. Fill the space between the vases with whatever foliage you chose, and place the flowers in the smaller vase. It's that simple to find magazine-worthy fall kitchen countertop inspiration for Thanksgiving, and you can even adapt this trick to other seasons with a simple change of colors and decorations.
