IKEA's New Tin Organizers May Be Cute, But Can They Keep Your Kitchen Organized?

If you're like many home kitchen organizers, you appreciate storage items that allow you to mix and match containers of different sizes and shapes. This approach to container design allows you to choose the best combination of canister sizes for your storage needs. It's likely that IKEA had something along these lines in mind when it created its new BETTHAJ collection. The new kitchen storage tins feature containers in assorted sizes and colors, ranging from the BETTHAJ Cookie Tins to the BETTHAJ Coffee and Tea Containers. And for those who love a good plate of pasta, there's even the IKEA BETTHAJ Spaghetti Tin. It's so tall that no spaghetti-breaking is required. There's a tin for just about anything you need to stash away, no matter the size — sugar cubes, bay leaves, the works.

The BETTHAJ pieces look a bit like miniature metal trash cans. One almost expects Oscar the Grouch to pop up out of the top of one. Humor aside, the design and the materials that the tins are made of speak to their sturdiness and quality. If taken care of, tin cans last for decades, so presumably, the IKEA set will be long-lasting, too.

The pieces only come in silver, yellow, and blue. However, given that some of the containers already feature coats of paint, it's logical to assume that they can be repainted to match your kitchen's color story. IKEA instructs consumers to hand-wash the tins, which cuts down on the wear and tear to the paint. A gentle washing with mild soap and a little warm water should be enough to keep them clean.

IKEA BETTHAJ containers can organize your kitchen

The BETTHAJ containers have some features that make them particularly conducive to keeping your kitchen clutter-free. For starters, the tin containers are lidded. The design of the lids, with their recessed knobs and indented construction, facilitates telescoped stacking. If a container has the same circumference as another in the line, it'll easily join the stack. A couple of the canisters, the oblong-shaped blue tin for food storage, and the large round blue and yellow cookie tins won't stack with any of the other smaller, narrow tins in the line. However, it is possible to stack multiple cookie tins on top of each other. The same goes for the blue oblong-shaped food tin.

Because these mini stackable storage bins are designed the way they are, they're the type of item you'd want when you're short on counter space. That is, even if you can't arrange them wide, you can stack them high. The price is right on these, too. The most expensive tin in the group, the cookie tin, costs less than $10. The smallest coffee and tea tin sets you back less than $4. They're cute, useful, and economical. It's definitely a win for the home organizer in the never-ending kitchen-clutter organization wars.
