People Online Can't Seem To Agree If This US Appliance Brand Is Worth Buying From

People rely on having good appliances in their homes every day. Not just for convenience, but for safety, too. There's nothing worse than finding out you bought a major refrigerator brand that you should've avoided when the food goes bad from poor cooling, except maybe a faulty stove that could cause a fire. When you are shopping for appliances, the overall performance of the appliance is generally at the top of mind for consumers. This can include things like safety, features, and functionality. The next consideration is generally customer service. If something does go wrong with the appliance, customers want to know they can get it handled fairly and efficiently without facing new issues down the road or waiting months for a service call. All of these things are what customers consider when they purchase Samsung appliances, but with so many mixed reviews, it seems people can't agree on the quality and reliability of the brand.

Beyond customer reviews, it seems experts are in the same boat. According to Consumer Reports, Samsung ranks right in the middle of the board in terms of reliable kitchen appliance brands, with a rating of 51 out of 100. In the ranking, their French door refrigerators were considered the worst of their products, and dishwashers were of lower quality than most other appliances. Gas appliances were generally considered good, and top freezer refrigerators were rated as their best product. The vast range of quality and reliability in different products may contribute to the mixed reviews from customers.

Why some people say Samsung is a good appliance brand

Samsung is actually among the most popular appliance brands in the US, so they must be doing something that customers like. Samsung claims they are rated number 1 in customer satisfaction. In a JD Power survey in 2025, Samsung was consistently among the top-rated brands for home appliances; however, the study did say that overall satisfaction is declining, and more customers are raising concerns about durability and functionality as the use of smart appliances increases. Many customers defend Samsung, saying that they only have so many service requests because they sell so many products, and their percentage is comparable to other companies. In addition, there are generally no complaints about the features and functionality of Samsung appliances.

One Reddit user said, "I've had 7 major Samsung appliances over the last 17 years with no issues. One dryer needed a replacement part, which I handled myself for $187." Another positive review said, "Sorry to hear about your problems. I have a Samsung fridge I bought in 2017, still running with no issues. 2 1/2 years ago I bought the same fridge again, and a gas range and dishwasher. All have been working fine." Another customer said via Reddit, "I love our Samsung appliances. Yes, our dishwasher display broke 1 week after we got it, but Samsung sent a repairman out the next day and replaced the entire touchscreen system for free. We've been nothing but happy."

What makes Samsung not worth buying

So what's the problem? Why can't people online agree whether Samsung is worth buying or not? It seems to come down to reliability. In fact, it is considered an unreliable appliance brand to avoid at all costs, according to home improvement experts. In general, customers agree that when Samsung appliances work, they are great. However, the consensus of negative reviews agrees that most appliances do not last as long as they should, and when they do break, they are exceptionally hard (and expensive) to get fixed. In one Reddit thread, customers continually listed different appliances they bought from Samsung, stating they had "nothing but problems." While they did say Samsung honored warranties and reimbursed faulty items, they generally won't repair them.

Samsung refrigerators received 1.2 stars out of 5 on Consumer Affairs from over 4,000 reviews. Many customers complained their fridge broke within three years, and many had issues with the ice maker. Samsung washers faired even worse with a 1.1-star rating (out of 2,545 reviews).

One customer and service professional on Reddit pointed out that the issue with Samsung is the cost of repairs if things go wrong, saying, "[A]s a service company I love the common failures and repairs. We hate Samsung primarily because the mark up on their repair parts is so insanely high that most people opt to replace rather than repair. Because the price is so high no suppliers stock parts, so on the rare occasion that someone wants to fix their Samsung appliance we end up waiting 3-5 weeks for the part. On top of that Samsung is the leader in having design flaws that are not repairable, namely their ice makers and the french door refrigerator have a defrost issue that is not fixable, among others."
