Wall sconces are a perfect way to boost the ambiance in your home. While you could make a simple yet elegant one, if you crave Halloween lighting, try making one of your own. Like many Halloween decor ideas, this is an affordable way to craft with Dollar Tree favorites. Creating this accent for your happy haunt is pretty straightforward. Yet when you see the final result, you'll wonder think it's a wall sconce that looks like it's straight out of the Haunted Mansion, thanks to a DIY by Facebook user Cirqnamics.
This DIY sconce requires hot glue for assembly, a Dollar Tree Gold Rectangular Plastic Charger Tray and a Plastic Halloween Skeleton Hand. If your local Dollar Tree doesn't have the hands in stock, you can get a comparable pack of two Halloween Skeleton Severed Hand on Amazon. Add a Luminessence LED Pillar Candle to your cart as well. The orange glow version is a good choice, as it adds an eerie vibe to your final piece, but a regular white one will work as well. You'll also need a package of Playskool Assorted Crayons, or similar. Or simply snag a broken red crayon from your kids' arts and craft box. While you're at it, grab a tube of black acrylic paint and a paintbrush. The finishing touch will be a handful of Spanish moss. If you don't have any around from your days of making cottagecore moss wreaths, you can find it in bags on Amazon, with options like FloraCraft Spanish Moss 2 Ounce bags.

The charger plate may be gold now, but soon, it will be a piece of decor that looks like it's lost a war with time. You'll be painting three pieces of decor black: the candle, the charger plate, and the skeleton hand. Using bold strokes, cover the plate with the black paint, then smudge it and rub it away slightly with a paper towel. Doing this will give it a more weathered look. You could also consider using gray to sponge paint a stone appearance. Next, you'll follow with the same techniques for the candle and the hand, aging them to perfection. If you have other paint colors, such as red, maybe add a few drops to simulate blood.
As for that lone red crayon, you'll melt it by carefully holding a lighter to it, then dripping wax along the candle's edge for a bleeding effect. Be careful you don't hold the flame near a battery or your paint, as can contain flammable materials. This is a great way to turn your candle into Halloween decor with a common household item. If all of the pieces are dry, glue your skeleton hand to the charger plate, placing it with the palm upright so it can "grasp" the candle. Set the candle inside the palm, then after everything is attached firmly with the glue, hang it on the wall, draping moss over the whole setup. As an alternative to moss, add in a few cobwebs and a plastic spider for a frightfully fun touch.
