The One Item You Should Never Store In The Bathroom

When you're constantly on the go, it's essential to keep your daily routines as efficient as possible. For example, you might have a stylish charging station for your electronics in the entryway or a vanity area that stores everything you need to get your day started. There are plenty of ways to make your home adapt to your busy lifestyle, especially your bathroom, which can store several of your daily hygiene and fashion essentials. But be warned, one thing you should never store in your bathroom is jewelry — as convenient as it may be.

More than likely, you spend most of your time getting ready in your bathroom. And in that case, it makes sense to use this space as storage for keeping your small essentials, such as your jewelry, organized and at the ready. Maybe you've even made a habit of taking off necklaces and earrings before showering or during your nighttime routine. Unfortunately, your jewelry items aren't safe in the bathroom and are prone to damage and even accidentally losing them in the sink or your shower's drain.

Jewelry corrodes faster in the bathroom

There are plenty of reasons to be wary about placing your jewelry in your bathroom. If you're lucky enough to have never dropped a beloved ring or bracelet in a sink drain, you wouldn't understand the sheer devastation that comes with losing something precious and possibly irreplaceable. For that reason alone, you should never store it on your bathroom countertop.

As mentioned, storing your jewelry collection, specifically in a bowl or case where it's exposed, can cause damage to your valuables. Specifically, the metals corrode faster than they would encased in a box or outside of the bathroom because of the humidity and chemicals typically found in sprays. For example, if you use hairspray, the chemicals can create a film around your stainless steel jewelry pieces. Similarly, body lotions can cause similar buildup damage. Rather than on bathroom counters or shelves, it's best to place your jewelry in a dry area that's away from possible chemical exposure. Alternatively, if you're low on space or adamant about the convenience, it's recommended to store your valuables in a box that can be tucked away from moisture and chemicals from perfumes and other sprays.
