DIY A Pottery Barn Fall Decor Dupe Using Affordable Dollar Tree Supplies
Pottery Barn is a go-to source for elegant, seasonal decorations. The Autumn Maple Leaf Tree is no exception, but it's no longer available — and at $299, it was a bit of a budget-buster — so why not make your own version for less? TikTok user bargain.bethany created an affordable dupe using products from Dollar Tree, and you can easily put it together in an afternoon. You'll need an Essentials Black Plastic Broom Handle, masking tape, brown paint, a bundle of Floral Garden Fall Leaves Foliage Stems, a pot, some rocks, some moss, and a Styrofoam block.
Start by removing the plastic end of the broom handle. Wrap the broom handle in masking tape to create a tree-like texture. Insert a branch of faux leaves in the hole at the top and secure with more masking tape. Add some more branches to the upper part of the broom handle, wrapping them with masking tape. Paint the masking-tape-covered broom handle brown to mimic the look of a tree trunk. Glue the Styrofoam block to the bottom of the pot. Use a pair of scissors or an awl to carve out a hole for the broom handle to fit into. Put your tree into the Styrofoam block and add some rocks to the pot for weight and stability. Add the moss around the tree to cover the Styrofoam and rocks for a finished look. Pair this with a stunning fall centerpiece to elevate your space for the season.
Customize your dupe with some sustainable swaps
Although the Dollar Tree version of this tree is much more affordable than the original from Pottery Barn, there are ways to get the look for even less, using supplies from around your house and yard or a local thrift store. You may be able to decorate for fall without spending a dime. The easiest and cheapest option would be to find a branch or sapling that already has leaves attached and simply cut it down and put it in a pot. Short of finding the perfect branch, you can find any branch that's approximately the right size. Collect and preserve the color of dried fall leaves to avoid buying artificial replicas. You can then hot glue them to the branch and put the finished piece in the pot.
If you're trying to be more eco-friendly and don't want to use Styrofoam, you can fill the pot with rocks and use them to hold up the branch. You may need to stabilize it with wire. A larger pot will make this easier and will give you a higher-end look as well. Instead of buying artificial moss, collect it from your yard or woods. The end result will be a gorgeous autumn decoration for practically free that you can feel good about making.
