DIY A Chic Ghost Wreath That Rivals Pottery Barn's With A Few Affordable Supplies

If your front door looks more boring than boo-tiful this Halloween, creating a chic ghost wreath is the perfect way to add just the right amount of spookiness. Pottery Barn's Lit Ghost Wreaths flew off the shelves despite retailing for $90, and are currently listed for resale on eBay for frightfully high prices! Most of us don't want to conjure up hundreds of dollars for a single Halloween decoration, especially when it's so easy to DIY a nearly-identical dupe that's stylish enough to make your porch the life (or afterlife) of the party. The haunting hack that turns a simple Styrofoam wreath into a ghostly sight that's equal parts eerie and elegant was shared on ashleymariesavage's TikTok. Clearly preferring tricks to treats, she attaches several small foam balls to an inexpensive wreath form, wraps it carefully with battery-powered string lights, and creates ghosts using sheets of cheesecloth and hole-punched paper eyes, before hanging it on her front door.

While there are plenty of cheap and easy Halloween decorations you can DIY, this one's more satisfying than finding a full-sized KitKat in your candy haul. Since it's quick and requires no cutting, with a little supervision, it's even a good craft for kids. You'll need a wreath form like the FloraCraft extruded CraftFōM one, in the size of your choice, along with a small foam ball for each ghost you want to add to your wreath. Although you can use hot glue, the process will be much easier with floral picks like the Doloftena U/M shape floral craft pins. And, lastly, you'll need cheesecloth fabric and a string of mini LED fairy lights.

How to create a spooky ghost wreath on a budget

Between bags of candy and last-minute costume runs, Halloween spending can creep up fast. This DIY ghost wreath won't appear out of thin air, but for less than $25 in supplies, you can turn your porch into a hauntingly fun display. If you're on a budget, it pairs perfectly with ghost garlands and other Halloween decor you can make with items you already have at home.

Start by using floral pins to secure foam balls evenly around your wreath form. Each one will become a ghost, so if you're going for an oversized or miniature wreath, choose balls that are proportional so the scale looks right. Once they are firmly in place, wrap a strand of fairy lights around the entire wreath. Secure the strand's battery pack to the back of the wreath with a zip-tie to keep the glowing effect magically out of sight. Next, layer cheesecloth over each ball to form the ghost bodies. Use enough fabric to completely cover the form, letting the edges hang naturally to weigh them down in October breezes. Lastly, use a hole-punch to create eyes out of black craft paper. This is another place you may want to enlist the help of a glue gun, but you could also use double-sided mini glue dots to attach the eyes, bringing your ghosts to life.

Finally, show off your chic new wreath to all the ghouls and goblins in the neighborhood. But remember, there's nothing scarier than ruining your front door with a bunch of nails, so use one of the foolproof ways to hang a wreath without making holes instead.
