If you adore nature, adding a birdbath to your yard is the perfect invitation for feathered creatures. Not only does it provide them with a water source, but it also gives you the chance to sit back and enjoy their antics. Birdbaths come in a wide variety of materials, including stone, metal, and plastic. Or, you can easily craft your own stunning DIY birdbath out of glass vases from the thrift store. Turns out, the shape of a vase works beautifully for creating a pedestal, while incorporating pieces of dishware can help transform it into a bath. People are falling in love with this project because of how charming the results are.
As you might know, vases are an item that a thrift store typically has an abundance of. Plus, many times you can score vintage ones that are just as gorgeous as the flowers you fill them with. In order to upcycle thrifted vases into a birdbath, the key is to find three similar-sized vases that can be stacked vertically. The vases don't have to look exactly alike. In fact, having different etched features makes the piece even more unique. You'll also need a base for the bottom, such as a round glass serving tray. As for the top, use a wide glass bowl or another tray with raised edges.
Piecing together your pedestal birdbath
You'll need a strong adhesive for this DIY, such as a tube of clear E6000 Plus Multipurpose Adhesive. Start by deciding how you'd like to assemble the vases into the stand, as they can be used either right-side up or upside down. Once you have your plan, begin attaching the pieces together, starting with the bottom tray and vase. For added safety, wait for it to dry before adding another vase. You can also add pressure during the drying process by using strips of clear packing tape. After you glue on the top bowl and give it plenty of time to dry — your lovely pedestal birdbath will be ready for the final touches.
First things first, you need to find a good spot for your new yard decor. Since it's glass, be careful of putting it somewhere that it could easily tip over. To make it more sturdy, you could bury the lower tray in the ground — then fill the top bowl with decorative rock, like Dollar Tree's Polished River Stones. Pour in one to two inches of water, and it'll be ready for all your feathered friends! You could even pair it with a DIY bird feeder to give them a food source as well. Be sure to refill the water often and clean the bath regularly to keep the birds happy and healthy. To enjoy your new birdbath at night, set a solar light nearby, and it'll look beautiful all lit up.
