After having many moments in the spotlight throughout the '60s and '70s, interior arches eventually fell out of style because people quite simply got tired of looking at them. But after decades of being considered outdated, arches are trending once again. This time around, though, they're being used in a much more intentional, design-forward way to give homes an artful touch. As HGTV star Nate Berkus has said on Instagram, arches have the power to "make thoughtful transitions and transform a space." And now, more and more homeowners are starting to see their potential. In fact, it's even said that adding arches can increase the value of your home, making now the perfect time to consider this unique design choice.

Just like we saw in the latter half of the 20th century, interior arched doorways are becoming extremely popular again, creating a beautiful, soft-edged transition between rooms. But the revival doesn't stop there. Arched windows are also on the rise, as are arched wall recesses. A really creative way to incorporate the trend into your home, an arched recess is essentially a curved cut-out in your wall that brings immediate depth and style to the space, increasing visual interest. Also known as feature arches, they look great in living rooms and bedrooms with open shelving installed inside for displaying books and decor. Arched wall recesses are gorgeous in the kitchen, too, either as a chic wet bar or an eye-catching feature above the stove — as seen in Selena Gomez's cottage style kitchen

Embrace arches in smaller ways with decor, furniture, and DIYs

Installing an arch usually involves cutting into the doorframe or wall and attaching plywood in an arch shape. But if you're not up for making any big structural changes to incorporate arches into your home, there are plenty of other ways to do it without committing to a big project. There's also the option to DIY arches in your doorways by cutting Styrofoam into an arch shape and securing it to your doorway with a construction adhesive like Liquid Nails. But if even that sounds like too much of a hassle, there are smaller ways to embrace the look, like creating a feature backsplash for behind your stove with tile or brick slips arranged in the shape of an arch.

For something even simpler, try introducing arch-shaped furniture and decor into your home. An arched mirror would be a stunning addition to bathrooms, entryways, and living rooms. This VooBang Wide Arched Wall Mirror, for example — which is available in both gold or black frames — would look especially chic above a mantel or console table. In the bedroom, meanwhile, you could incorporate the unique shape with an arched wardrobe or chest of drawers, or by swapping out your current headboard for one with an arch shape — like this Modway Resort King Size Platform Bed

Arch-shaped cabinets would also be a nice touch in kitchens and living rooms. Or, for more subtle touches, you could even consider smaller decorative accents like arched sculptures, wall art, and table lamps. This Nourison Home 21-inch Off White Textured Arch Table Lamp perfectly embraces the trend while also adding warmth and texture into the space.
