Repurpose Vinyl Records For A Cool DIY Plant Stand

Before you add your old record collection to your garage sale pile or, worse, toss them in the garbage, there is one DIY project you might want to try. Whether the vinyls are simply too scratched and worn out to be played anymore or you need to free up some space for new records, you can utilize these old vinyls by transforming them into adorable plant stands. Not only are you saving money, but you're saving these precious items from being totally discarded. Plus, it's better to put old records to good use instead of storing vinyl records in your garage, where they are most likely to get damaged.

While there are a ton of DIY vinyl projects, like making a vintage-style clock will the help of your old vinyl records, this one in particular only requires a few extra supplies and is very simple to put together. You can easily thrift your plant stand base for just a few dollars at your local secondhand store. For the rest of the project, you only need a used record and a strong adhesive to adhere it to the base and give scratched vinyl a new life.

Make a plant stand out of old vinyl records

First, assemble your supply list: your old vinyl record, a side table or planter base, and a strong adhesive like liquid nails or Gorilla Glue. You'll want to choose a table base either without a top or one with a small circular top that will fit underneath the vinyl. Adhere your record of choice to the top of the table for a fun upgrade that will give your space a super trendy look. If you want to go the extra mile to protect the surface from coffee or water stains, you can add a coat of acrylic sealant on the vinyl.

For an extra addition to the table, you can even melt your old records down in the oven to mold your own planters. To do so, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is pre-heating, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set your bowl of choice on the sheet, upside down. Then, lay the record on top of the bowl and set the sheet into your preheated oven. Remove it after about five to six minutes, placing it immediately into another bowl for shaping. You can mold the record into your preferred shape and then let it cool until it's completely hardened.
