'Beautiful!' HGTV Fans Are In Love With Jonathan Scott & Zooey Deschanel's Unique Home

While the stunning design details of Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott's NYC home have been the talk of the town following their recent renovation, the couple's main residence in the Brentwood neighborhood of LA is something to marvel at, too. Nicknamed Park House for its lush lawn filled with California sycamore trees and a 60-year-old rose garden, the actress and HGTV star completed renovations on their historic 1930s home in 2022. And it's received a lot of love from HGTV fans since then, thanks to its unique design that's bursting with character.

Viewers have especially loved the couple's bold use color and pattern — from the green kitchen cabinets and Portuguese-tile backsplash to the abundance of floral wallpaper in spaces like the dining room, guest room, and Deschanel's home office. "Absolutely love the use of wallpaper," one fan wrote on YouTube. "I love the color palettes in your house," added another. "Everything goes together so well and makes such a beautiful visual ... It's like walking through a dream." Other fans, meanwhile, have praised the couple for honoring the home's history through details like decorative moldings and Gothic arches, with one saying: "Love the house and that [it] respects the era of the home."

One space, however, has received mixed reviews. Some fans felt the main suite appears less cozy and lived-in than the rest of the house, and lacks character compared to the other rooms. But there's a reason for that, as the "Property Brother" star and his fiancée have explained, and it's to create a sense of calm.

Achieving feelings of calm in a house full of character

While talking about the design choices for their main suite, Scott admitted that he often sees people pouring their energy into renovating entertaining spaces — like the living room, family room, and kitchen — but forget "about the space where you need to recharge your own batteries." He and Deschanel wanted their bedroom to be that recharging space, and for it to feel "incredibly calm." To achieve that, they opted for neutral white walls and clean, uncluttered bedding in soothing shades of white and dusty rose. Touches of blue in their rug and bedside tables also brings a grounding feeling — and since blue is known to be a great bedroom color for a better night's sleep, the addition of blue tones was clearly intentional. "When you see the vibe in here it's all about the relaxation," Scott explained in a YouTube video.

That's not to say that you have to sacrifice character for calm — you can achieve both simultaneously. Despite its soothing palette, the couple's suite still includes unique details, such as a vintage-inspired Gothic-arched window. This design philosophy extends beyond the bedroom, too. Scott and Deschanel's expansive solarium, for instance — featuring a glass ceiling, a fountain, and olive trees — has created a peaceful, airy space that's still incredibly unique. And while something like this might not be financially or structurally possible for everyone, there are lots of ways to make your living space more calming while still keeping its character — such as incorporating greenery, embracing natural materials, or maximizing natural light.
