IKEA is well-known for its versatile and affordable kids' furniture, but sometimes, when you're looking for ways to creatively add more storage space to your kids' room, you need a custom, DIY solution. If you're a busy parent, budget-friendly and time-saving solutions are likely a priority for you. After all, you have to meet your little one's needs just as much as you have to meet the needs of your space. Thankfully, TikTok creator @veer.enmeer shared a video showing parents how to use an IKEA MOPPE wood organizer to create an adorable mini storage bin. They only used a few simple tools for this project — some of which you may already have at home — and the task should only take about 30 minutes to complete.

#boekenkastje #diy #ikeahack #ikeadiy #ikeamoppehack

The IKEA MOPPE cabinet is made of birch plywood and measures 16.5 inches by 7 inches by 12.625 inches, making it a great size for storing kids' toys and books. While it's on the small side and won't be able to hold larger toys, it's a decent size for kids' furniture and is still low-profile enough not to obstruct your design if you intend to stash the organizer in a different room. The cabinet retails for $40, and while it's meant to be used as a desk organizer, removing the item's drawers and adding furniture legs can turn it into a small storage bin. It's possible that you can DIY this IKEA storage solution for under $50, making it a relatively low-cost choice.

Create the perfect child-sized book rack

To make this cute and cozy storage solution, grab the IKEA MOPPE storage cabinet, some wooden furniture legs (like this Txcucc set on Amazon), some painter's tape, brushes, and paint. Remove all six of the cabinet's inner drawers, as you won't be using them for this DIY. Rather than tossing them, however, consider utilizing the bins for a simple toy storage idea that will help keep your playroom tidy, like placing them on a desk to hold crayons or markers. Next, flip the organizer over so you can see the backside, then measure and mark the placement of the furniture legs. Drill and screw in the furniture legs per their provided instructions. Once done, the organizer will resemble a small piece of furniture.

For added flair, you can paint the wooden organizer. TikTok creator @veer.enmeer used painter's tape to create crisp, straight lines. They then used brown and sage-green paint to create cozy stripes. However, you could paint the ensemble all one color or opt for different patterns. If you're looking for a fun DIY project to do with your kids, you could get them involved in the painting process or allow them to create their own designs. (You can also skip this step if you prefer the look of classic birch wood.) Once the paint has dried, add some of your child's favorite books to make this an easily accessible library for their room.
