The trouble with decorating your home with the common motifs of Christmas – the tabletop tree, a candle-laden centerpiece, or even a garland – is that their forms have become so common that they can almost seem passé, or inelegant even. Christmas balls, when used in the standard way, can fall into this category. However, one talented TikTok DIYer, aryam6582, figured out that if you take them off the holiday tree and place them inside an elegant tree-shaped cage, they become pieces of beautiful holiday table décor, just like other decorating tips for Christmas on a budget. This creative Dollar Tree DIY is elegant and clever in its design, yet simple to construct. And if you buy all of the makings of this décor piece from the Dollar Tree, you get gilded on a budget.

Dollar Tree carries a number of different styles of holiday Christmas ball ornaments. From a size perspective, a couple of different packages of baubles from DT would work, like Christmas House plastic ball ornaments or hand-painted shatterproof Christmas ball ornaments. Pull all of the ornaments from one package for a more unified look. Or mix and match the pieces from several packages to create variety in size, color, and design. Finally, when it comes time to construct the tree-shaped cage the ornaments are housed in, you'll need some Cooking Concepts bamboo skewers and a Styrofoam round from Dollar Tree's floral section. A glue gun and some gold or black spray paint round out the supplies list for this simple and elegant Christmastime DIY.

Creating the Dollar Tree holiday décor from scratch

The round green foam pot insert forms the base for this tabletop décor piece. To create the cage, stick six or eight bamboo skewers into the foam at evenly spaced intervals. Next, bunch the ends of the skewers in your hands (the ends that aren't stuck in the foam). Keep them bunched together with one hand. With the other hand, apply hot glue to the bunch of skewers to glue the bars of the cage together. It'll look like a teepee when you're done. You may have to keep your hand on the skewers until the glue dries. Follow this with a coat of Rust-Oleum black acrylic enamel spray paint. Once that dries, push the Christmas ornaments through the openings in the cage until it's filled with the baubles.

If you'd like to mix the look up a bit, add some clever touches to the piece. Tie a big, colorful ribbon around the tops of the skewers. Essentially, you're making a tree-topper out of the ribbon. TONIFUL velvet ribbons would be lovely here. Or introduce some variety to these creative Christmas decorations. Perhaps start by mixing pine cones from your yard or small, round bells in among the baubles. Make sure the pine cones are in good shape and clean before you add them to the display. As for turning this into a Christmas bell décor piece, you'll be making a subtle nod to Santa and his reindeer when you add bells to the cage. This makes for a tabletop piece that adds both elegance and a little of St. Nick's jolly countenance to your DIY holiday décor.
