Keep Watches Organized With A Toilet Paper Roll DIY

Toilet paper is one of the most essential items in any home, but few people find much use for the cardboard rolls the paper is wrapped around. Often, they're tossed in the trash can or, at best, the recycling bin. Depending on how many people are in your family, you probably go through at least one 150-sheet roll a day. Think about how many toilet tubes you'll have in just a week. Believe it or not, there are tons of clever ways to repurpose empty toilet paper rolls for extra storage around your home. Got lots of wrist watches? One particularly creative idea is to cover the rolls in fabric and squeeze them into a lidded box. Voila! You have a luxe watch organizer.

To make use of your empty toilet paper rolls with this creative organization DIY, you're going to need about four or five rolls, an empty rectangular tissue box (like a Dollar Tree Scotties Facial Tissue Box), and a couple pieces of loose cardboard from another empty box. For decoration, choose your favorite silk-like fabric and some foam fabric sheets (enough to cover the outside of the box). Tool-wise, grab a hot glue gun, a roll of double-sided tape, and a pair of scissors. You need to make the toilet paper rolls sturdier for holding watches. Stuffing them with a fluffy material, like Poly-Fil Premium Polyester Fiber Fill, makes them softly supportive.

Create a luxe watch organizer using empty toilet paper rolls

Line the sides of your tissue box with double-sided tape — inside and out. Then wrap the box in the decorative foam paper. Cut slits into the corners of the foam so it folds neatly. You can also line the bottom of the box and the interior if you prefer, though those areas will mostly remain hidden. Once your box is lined, stuff each toilet paper roll with the Poly-Fil. Leave some filler hanging out of each end so the roll resembles a cushion. Wrap each roll tightly in a piece of silk fabric, covering the rolls and the Poly-Fil completely, and glue it in place underneath.

Next, measure the back of the box, double the measurements height-wise, and cut out a piece of cardboard to fit. Wrap it in the same silky fabric as the toilet paper tubes and glue it to the back of the box. It should rise several inches above the cushions. Thread your watches, with their buckles done up, onto the cushions, staggering them so their straps don't connect. Then place the watch-adorned rolls into the box. Everything should fit snugly inside the box and the watches shouldn't move around.

Not a fan of silk (or faux silk) fabric or fabric foam? Switch it out for other materials, like velvet (real or artificial), suede, corduroy, flannel, or even microfiber. Choose whatever patterns or colors you prefer. It could even be fun to cover each roll in a different patterned fabric. If you want to easily store and organize your jewelry in this organizer, tuck the fabric in between the rolls using a butter knife. It creates smaller, tighter gaps between each roll, perfect for earring posts and brooch backs.
