Sticker Types You Can Easily Remove Using A Hairdryer

If you've been struggling to remove a stubborn sticker or sticker residue from your kitchen cabinets, thrifted glasses, new dinnerware, or windows, you may need to try a new tactic. If using hot water, soap, and a washcloth hasn't made a dent in the process, then you should try using your handy-dandy hair dryer. Believe it or not, this bathroom essential can be used for more than just drying your hair. It can easily remove all types of stickers, including paper labels, vinyl stickers, price tags, decals, and more.

Most stickers are made from paper and vinyl, and can have different adhesive types: permanent, removable, and repositionable. Stickers with permanent adhesives tend to leave an irritating residue behind, leaving you to either try scraping it off with your finger or scrubbing it in vain with hot water. No matter what type of sticker residue you're dealing with, there is one easy way to solve the issue: heat from your hair dryer. The heat helps to soften the glue, just like a hot glue gun does, and makes the sticker much easier to peel off.

How to use a hair dryer to remove sticker residue

To fully remove stickers and residue from surfaces like glass, ceramic, plastic, or treated wood, you will simply need a hair dryer. This includes tiles, pottery, cases, water bottles, mirrors, and windows. First, set your hair dryer to a low setting, holding it just a few inches away from the surface of the sticker. Keep the heat on the area for at least 30 seconds up to a minute, moving it slightly to get the entire area. In just that short amount of time, the sticker should start coming off, and you can test it with your finger or a plastic scraping tool.

If the sticker is still not coming off, or the residue remains, you can reapply your heat treatment for another 30 to 60 seconds. Once the sticker has fully come off, you can scrub off any remaining residue with your hot water and soap mixture. Rubbing alcohol or vinegar can also work to wipe out stubborn sticker stains. If you are still dealing with stuck on sticker messes, you can also mix a baking soda and water paste to let it sit on the stain and wipe it off after a few minutes. Avoid using a heat treatment on some materials, like painted surfaces, anything delicate, tech products, or untreated wood.
