Turn Dollar Tree's Glass Jars Into The Cutest Christmas Light Display Decor With A DIY

Not all eye-catching Christmas trees are 6-foot fur giants. Some are miniature and sit inside a jar under the brilliant glow of fairy lights, lending light to spaces like your fireplace mantel or a DIY holiday table centerpiece. These little holiday decorations can be made from the assorted treasures you find in the aisles of the local Dollar Tree. And they're so cute, they deserve to replace other larger, more traditional Christmas light displays you might be considering.

Essentially, this Christmas craft is going to look like a snow globe filled with tiny pine trees when completed. Dollar Tree carries numerous types of jars. If you're leaning more toward a plain jar, one of DT's Square Glass Jars with a Rose Gold Metal Lid would work. However, if you're interested in doing Christmas all the way with this, consider using a Rounded Glass Jar from DT with holiday motifs embossed on the sides. Or upcycle one of your jars if you have one you'd like to use.

DT carries a few different kinds of greenery that would be suitable for this. Christmas-Themed Mini Decorative Pine Trees offer a lovely option if you're willing to cut them apart to make smaller trees out of the branches. Otherwise, choose greenery according to your taste. The illuminated jar gets its glow from LED String Lights and its Winter Wonderland vibe from flakes of artificial snow and white crafter's foam. As far as tools are concerned, you'll need a drill, some scissors, a glue gun, and a kabab skewer stick. Finally, you'll give it a more polished look with a strip of holiday-themed ribbon for good measure.

Filling a Dollar Tree jar with a Winter Wonderland

To create the lighted feature for this craft, you'll need to prep the lid of the jar. Drill a hole in it and string the LED lights through the hole. Glue the string of lights down to the inside of the lid in a spiral shape, leaving the on/off switch on the outside of the lid. (When the lid is on the jar, the switch will be outside the jar.) Cut out a piece of craft foam to fit the bottom of the jar, and squirt a little glue on one side of it. Stick a skewer through the non-glue side and press the foam down into the bottom of the jar, removing the skewer when it is in place.

To give the jar that frosted snow globe look, spray its insides with something like Prextex Fake Snow Spray for Christmas Trees (just make sure you don't use too much, as you want to be able to see inside the jar). Then, sprinkle some of the Dollar Tree's Christmas House Iridescent Faux Snow Decoration in the bottom. Next, cut snippets of branches from the mini trees. For more variety, mix in boughs from some of DT's other mini trees or add a dash of color with a few sprigs of Artificial Iced Berry Floral Branches. Details like the red berries, or even pine cones from your yard, create a more interesting visual juxtaposition in your lamp. Finally, add a little more DT snow or the snow spray to coat the flora, and then close the lid of your jar. Wrap some decorative ribbon around the lid, hide the on/off switch in the back, and display the jar.
