The Bathroom Trend That Is About To Make Cleaning A Whole Lot Easier

Most design trends usually turn heads because of the dynamic style. If we're going to jump on a bandwagon, it should at least be an aesthetically pleasing one. However, designers are also proving functionality and convenience matter just as much, if not more, than looks. The evidence — floating bathroom fixtures are trending.

While this design makes the room feel more open and less visually cluttered, it's also greatly favored for the easier bathroom maintenance it lends. "It's definitely being driven not only by the design-conscious consumer but also by a growing interest in space-saving and hygienic solutions," Alvin Biggs, managing director of RAK Ceramics UK, told KBBFocus. We're talking about wall-mounted sinks, vanities, and toilets. The latter hides the tank, base, and pipes inside the wall. All that greets guests are the floating bowl and flush plate. Similarly, for sinks and vanities, the basin and any accompanying cabinetry are elevated off the floor.

Vanities seem to be the most popular feature to mount. They are easy to integrate and fit into another trend for unique bathroom pieces. "Bespoke vanities are trending," interior designer Kelly Collier-Clark told House Beautiful. "Clients are interested in having design and style in their homes that no one else has." But if you're scheduled for a remodel, floating toilets are still a fit for this trend that can make cleaning your bathroom easier.

Wall-hung bathroom fixtures are more hygienic

Floating bathroom features are ideal if you want a space that is visually open and more sanitary. It makes cleaning easier since no furniture legs or toilet bases interrupt the floor and make it difficult to sweep and mop around. Plus, there are fewer places for dirt to settle, as there are no creases where the fixture meets the floor to trap dirt and grime. Say goodbye to scrubbing around the toilet base with an old toothbrush. You'll also have easier access to cleaning the underside of the toilet bowl or vanity and the nearby wall — places that are usually forgotten since they're hard to reach.

Additionally, these wall-mounted features can help reduce visual and physical clutter. With a floating toilet, there is no protruding tank. This is usually a site for baskets filled with toiletries and miscellaneous items that become a disorganized mess. No visible tank eliminates the temptation to crowd the area with stuff that creates visual clutter and adds to your bathroom cleaning list. Further, with wall-hung vanities, you don't have to worry about the cabinet legs and base getting dirty from this commonly high-traffic, wet area.

While the cleaning benefits are undeniable, not every trend will be right for your space. There are disadvantages to floating toilets, mainly due to tricky installation and cost. The biggest downside to a floating vanity revolves around limited storage space. However, if you desire a minimalist, airy look that also lightens up the chore list, floating bathroom fixtures can be ideal for your home.
