This Clever Hack Makes Budget-Friendly Dollar Store Christmas Trees Look Full And Luxurious

It's easy to feel the pinch on your household budget during the holidays. Even Christmas trees are getting a bit pricey these days. Luckily, dollar stores like Dollar Tree and Dollar General stock charming mini trees in assorted styles that don't cost the earth. They're perfect for small spaces such as apartments, dorm rooms, or offices. There are so many different ways to beautify them affordably, too. Save your money and decorate your Christmas tree without ornaments for a timeless look. Or keep it simple with a single strand of string lights. Regardless of how you plan to style them, there's no denying that these budget trees could look a little fuller. With a few simple supplies, you can join two inexpensive trees together to create a single Christmas tree with lush foliage.

First, you'll need to find the two matching mini Christmas trees. Dollar Tree has a 4-foot tall Assorted Artificial Noble Fir Unlit Christmas Trees that cost just $6. What a steal! If you want something even smaller, this 18-inch tall Christmas House Miniature Artificial Green Christmas Tree costs less than $10. You'll also need something to tie the trees together. The most discreet option — that will also add even more fullness to your tree — is individual Santa's Factory Wired Christmas Tree Branches. A pack of 24 goes for about $9. Otherwise, a handful of dark green cable ties or pipe cleaners will work, too.

Tie two trees together and fluff the foliage for a fuller Christmas tree

This is a super easy DIY. If the Christmas trees have a base, remove it. Lay the trees on the floor and flatten them by pushing apart the branches and laying them on either side of the trunk. Lay one tree on top of the other, lining up the trunks exactly. At intervals of about every three to four inches, separate the branches to expose the trees' trunks. Tie the trees together at that point using a wired faux branch, cable tie, or pipe cleaner. Once you reach the top, place the trees back on one of the stands and stand them up. To fluff the flattened foliage, bend the tips of each branch into alternating V shapes — for example, two branches up and one branch down. Keep going until there are no gaps in the tree.

If your tree is still not full enough for your liking, there are a few things you can do. This genius hack will make your sparse Christmas tree look fuller instantly: adorn it with transparent glass baubles with sprigs of greenery. You can also wrap a pine garland around the tree. Using big bows or curls of deco mesh is another clever, budget-friendly way to fill in the gap in your Christmas tree. How you decorate your tree helps, too. Nothing makes a Christmas tree look lush — even a smaller-sized tree — than filling its branches with ornaments. Place the stand in a basket, planter, or other decorative container. Place it on a table or sideboard instead of the floor to give the illusion of height.
