Use Dollar Tree Pool Noodles To Add A Splash Of Christmas Magic To Your Staircase

When we decorate our home for the holidays, the first thing we usually think of is the Christmas tree. Standing next to the fireplace, it ties the entire home together when it's lit up and covered in ornaments. Then we usually hang stockings from the mantel and wreaths on the doors. Some people get very involved and cover their houses in festive lighting to help set the mood for the holidays, à la Clark Griswold. But most folks neglect their staircase. Of course, that's partially because the bannisters need to stay clear for people to hold on to it. But the balusters connecting to the bannisters are ideal for attaching garland with the help of Pool Noodles from Dollar Tree.

This project should only take a few minutes to complete and will hardly cost you any money. An Instagram account called @littlepettittpad offers an excellent tutorial outlining the materials and steps to completing the project. All you need are a pool noodle, scissors, fir clippings, and holly. The color of the pool noodle doesn't matter because it will be covered. The fir clippings and holly can either be real or artificial. Before you get started, it's important to have a good idea of the final product. Your staircase's balusters will be adorned with bunches of evergreen clippings and holly, which will be attached to concealed pool noodle segments.

Decorate your staircase with garland using a pool noodle

The first step is to cut up the pool noodle into roughly five-inch segments. Once you have your segments, cut one slit longways on each. This touch will allow you to slip them onto the balusters. Once the foam pieces are secure, you can stab your fir clippings into them, and they should stay put. You can attach your holly the same way. The Instagram post also recommends complementing this design by attaching ribbons to bells and hanging them from the balusters just below the bunches of holly. If you don't have any ribbons of bells, try wrapping your balusters with lights.

If you use artificial greenery, you can reuse your creation each year. Real greenery will fill your home with a fresh odor, but the clippings will also dry out. Make sure to dispose of the clippings before they begin to pose a fire hazard. You can soak your natural greenery in the sink overnight before hanging, and it should make your garland decor look lush. Of course, you can always recycle the foam segments. If this DIY doesn't work for your home, you can try hanging garland from your banister using wire.
