Turn A Dollar Tree Cutting Board Into The Cutest Sleigh Decor With A DIY

There are so many items you can snag from Dollar Tree for holiday decor on a budget, including some unexpected everyday pieces that can be turned into memorable festive touches. For example, you can turn Dollar Tree's glass jars into the cutest Christmas light display in just a few steps, or transform holiday-themed towels into throw pillows. However, one of our favorite DIYs of the season is also one of the most unique, as it uses a Cooking Concepts Bamboo Cutting Board (just $1.25) and two Christmas House Metal Wreath Hangers ($1.50 each) to build an adorable mini sleigh that's the perfect addition to any room in your home. The finished product can be used as a charcuterie board, to serve snacks, to display your favorite decorations, or as part of a Christmas village tableau.

The idea came to one craft-loving influencer after spotting a ready-made wooden sleigh-shaped serving board at Target, which retailed for a whopping $25. As she showed off on TikTok, the same aesthetic and functionality could be achieved for a fraction of the cost with just a little creativity. Building your own also allows for much more customization to fit your needs and style.

How to DIY an adorable sleigh serving board

Decorating is one of the best parts of the holidays, but picking up wreaths, ornaments, and various baubles can quickly add up. Luckily, it's possible to outfit your home with elegant, simple holiday decor on a Dollar Tree budget, especially if you're open to some crafting. To DIY this cute tray, start with a bamboo cutting board, which will be the top of the sleigh. This can be left as-is or stained to a darker, more elegant hue. Alternatively, you can paint it in candy cane stripes, cover it with wrapping paper, add a seasonal rub-on transfer, or envelop it in holiday-themed fabric.

To build the sleigh's runners, take two gold metal wreath hangers and, starting at the flat portion designed to go atop the door, mark 1 inch down, then 3½ inches down. Cut the hanger into three sections using bolt cutters and superglue the 1-inch portion to the top of the longest piece — the curve that usually holds the wreath will be the front of the slay. Ensure both curved parts face the same way, clamp down, and allow to dry fully.

Now, hot-glue the shorter 2½-inch piece perpendicular to the runner, about 2 inches from the front. Superglue the chopping board to this piece, as well as the curve at the back, and it's ready for display. Adding twine to represent the handle finishes the project, which you can set atop fake snow or inside a faux wreath for added charm.
