Dollar Tree has really bulked up its inventory over the last few years, to the point where it carries just about anything you need to create some truly adorable and functional home decor. Some examples include turning Dollar Tree punch bowls into a surprisingly chic side table, or taking a handful of Dollar Tree finds and turning them into sleek, modern wall lights, which is exactly the DIY we're bringing to you today. Whether you're looking to add dimension to a narrow, empty wall, need lighting to place beside a TV in the living room, or want something stylish above your bedroom side tables, this fits the bill perfectly. These lights can even be mounted in hallways to give off a gallery-style feel, if that's the look you're aiming for.
For this clever DIY inspired by TikToker @twosistersstory, grab two Crafters Square MDF Wood Plank Boards (measuring 11 inches long and 5½ inches wide), along with two Crafters Square Wood Boxes and two Self-Adhesive LED Push Lights that measure 2¾ inches. Since Dollar Tree's wood boxes come in three sizes, you need to choose one that is under 5½ inches wide, so when it's lined up against the wood plank, it leaves just a bit of space on each side. The box should also be able to comfortably fit the 2¾-inch push light inside it. To finish everything off, you'll need black spray paint — or really, any other color you like, as long as it's safe for wood.
Creating your luxe-looking Dollar Tree wall lights
To get started with this project, you'll want to measure a straight line across the wood plank and lightly trace it with a pencil. Make sure the plank is standing vertically (taller rather than wider). The line should sit slightly above the middle of the plank, since this is where the wood box will go. Next, hot-glue one side of the Crafters Square wood box directly onto the line you marked, making sure it's facing upside down and centered so there's the same amount of leftover space on each side.
From there, go in with your spray paint, being careful not to oversaturate the piece. If it needs two coats, give it what it needs. This is also where you can switch things up if you'd prefer something more flashy, like a two-toned look, for example. Once everything is fully spray-painted and dry, adhere the LED push light inside each of the Crafters Square boxes so the light faces downward and stays hidden.
The final step is mounting these beauties. You can use Super Glue Pre-Cut Foam Mounting Tape from Dollar Tree, or try a tape hack when using adhesive hooks to save your walls from damage. To add even more charm, style the top of each box with a small plant, like a succulent. And if you can't find the LED lights at your local Dollar Tree, something like the Westek Two-Pack Ultra-Thin LED White Puck Light from Home Depot, which measures just under 3 inches, would work as an alternative.
