Goodbye, Dish Towel Clutter: This Space-Saving Storage Hack Keeps Them Organized

Hanging a cute dish towel on the oven is the perfect way to top off a clean kitchen. Yet, it's not an item you always want on display. Many of us hide our dish towels in a drawer to keep them out of sight but close at hand. That drawer can easily get cluttered, though — especially if you own nearly a dozen (or more). Instead, consider giving your overstuffed drawer a break by using another space. One often-overlooked option is the back of your cabinet doors. With the help of hooks, this area can be great for storing extra dish towels in an organized way.

This solution will not only help declutter the kitchen drawer you use for towels — how you hang them looks pretty neat, too. It involves folding them into adorable little bundles. This extra step helps save space so they're not drooping down inside your cabinet. This method works best with dish towels that have hanging loops on the ends. If your towels don't have them, you can sew ones on using either ribbon or twill tape. Loops can often come in handy, so it's something to keep in mind when you're buying new kitchen towels.

You're also going to need hooks for your cabinet door. If you'd prefer to steer away from holes, simply grab adhesive ones, like these Self-Adhesive Wall Hooks on Amazon. You can find them at stores like Dollar Tree as well, like their 4-pack of Tool Bench Removable Hooks for $1.50. You can attach them to the back of any cabinet door you like, but using one under or near the sink makes it extra convenient.

Fold your dish towels so they stay neat and tidy

YouTube creator Tor from Organizing TV shared a useful folding method. To start, lay your towel upside down on a surface. Position it horizontally with the loop on one side. Next, fold the bottom of the horizontal towel underneath it, about a couple of inches. Starting from the side of the towel without the loop, fold it a third of the way towards the center. Repeat the fold on the opposite side with the loop.

Rotate the towel so that the pocket-looking fold you created is at the top. Then, begin rolling the towel from the bottom until you reach it. You can now flip the pocket over the bundle, which will help keep it secure. Use your hands to adjust the roll if needed so that it's nice and even. The loop should sit at the end of the bundle, ready for hanging.

Attach a few hooks to the back of your cabinet door for your bundles. They'll keep your kitchen towels organized in style while also freeing up drawer space. A common recommendation is to change dish towels daily, given how often they're used. By hanging them from the cabinet door below your sink, they'll be easy to grab anytime you need one. Plus, unfolding them is a breeze.
