How To Keep Kitchen Towels From Falling? The Practical Trick That Always Works

In a busy kitchen, dish towel placement can mean the difference between working with wet hands or dry ones. That's why most home gourmands keep one in a spot that's less than an arm's length away – usually, draped over the handle of the oven or the dishwasher. The problem with this arrangement is that the towel tends to fall off its perch if you hit it the wrong way. If you're the can-do-fix-it type, there is actually an easy remedy for the issue. It requires only a rubber band and a few minutes of your time.

In a pinch, you can use any rubber band for this kitchen organization hack. However, for the sake of longevity, you may want to use a large AIWOQI rubber band for the job instead of one of the average, slightly skinny ones that come on grocery produce bags. And since this is a MacGyvering project, you'll, of course, need a sizable safety pin, too.

Those are behind-the-scenes items that make this trick work. In the front and center of this towel display, you'll want at least one pretty dish towel. Due to its wicking qualities, linen is one of the best materials for kitchen towels because it keeps the towel dry. However, you're not limited to this. Your design sensibilities will dictate your choice, too. You'll hide the rubber band under a ribbon. Keep in mind that ribbons tend to fray at the ends over time. That being the case, keep some extra ribbon in your craft drawer so that you can replace the frayed ribbon when the time comes.

How to keep your kitchen towel hung up

To take advantage of this hack, drape the towel over the oven handle. Half of the towel should hang in front of the oven bar, and half of it in the back. Gently pull on the front side of the towel until about three-quarters of it hangs down in front. Bunch the towel in your hand, like you're making a ponytail, and then secure it with the rubber band, this time, like you're binding a ponytail. Puff up the top a bit to make it look less severe.

Wrapping a ribbon around the rubber band covers the unsightliness of it and adds a decorative element. Secure it in the back with a safety pin to keep it from sliding off the towel. Your choice of ribbon offers you another way to make this display vibe with your decor. For example, if your kitchen's aesthetic leans toward a rustic decor style, try a burlap-covered ribbon to go with the linen towel. That style embraces natural materials, like linen, and rough textures, like burlap, so those materials would fit perfectly together.

If you'd like to style your kitchen towels somewhere other than the stove or dishwasher, consider adding a decorative feature, like a STOBAZA wooden towel ladder to the wall beside the stove. Tie a couple of towels to it using the method above. This kind of set-up allows you to display more than one towel, giving your towel arrangement a more decorative flair. Use a technique like this to introduce different patterns or textures to the mix and to create visual contrast in your decor.
