The Simple IKEA Solution For Keeping Messy Shoe Clutter Organized
If you shop IKEA consistently, then you probably already suspect how valuable the home goods chain is when it comes time to organizing anything, including that Fuji-sized mound of shoes by the front door. Although IKEA shoe storage cabinets count as favored items among many shoe organizers, the store also has several other options that suit this purpose, and take less time to put together than a cabinet. This includes IKEA shoe storage racks that are more sparse in their design, like the GREJIG Wire Shoe Rack. The GREJIC shoe rack, paired with a thick BAGGMUCK Shoe Tray, is enough to help you unpile all those unruly shoes and to prevent their muddy contents from spilling out between the bars of the rack. This project involves placing the BAGGMUCK below the GREJIG rack.
The GREJIG's design is basic, like most of IKEA's wares. It's a wire shelf that stands on two legs. It's nearly 23 inches long and 11 inches deep. This is enough to store shoes – at least two or three on each shelf. If you have more shoes to store than just a couple of pairs, just buy extra GREJIG shelves. They're stackable, and at less than $5 a shelf, very affordable.
For example, if you have 10 or 12 pairs of shoes, you'll probably need at least four individual shelves to keep your shoe clutter neat and tidy. Also note that when the shelves are stacked, they only stand just over 6 inches high. If you have tall boots, they may not fit on the shelves, unless you put them on the top. Finally, you'll only need one of the trays for this project.
Combine the IKEA GREJIG rack and BAGGMUCK tray
Before you stack the wire shelves by the door, you'll want to lay down the BAGGMUCK shoe tray. It's plastic, and it'll catch any wet drops and bits of dirt and debris that'll fall off your shoes and onto the floor. If you have hardwood floors, you'll appreciate this feature. These types of floors can eventually warp and stain when they come into contact with water. Putting the tray at the bottom of the stack mitigates this somewhat, though you'll want to keep an eye on the area on extra wet days. There may be some spillover, despite your best efforts to stop that eventuality.
Once you're ready to stack up the GREJIG shelves, you just need to open the first one and place it inside the plastic tray. Stack the next shelf on top of that. It should fit sturdily in place because the bottoms of the shelves' feet are designed to hook in between the wires of the shelf below it. Stack as many shelves as you need to store your shoes.
Finally, if you'd like some extra protection for your floors, consider two more additions to this arrangement. Place an IKEA FRIKTION Door Mat in front or to the side of the stack, (depending on how the stack is positioned in relation to the wall or door). This gives you a place to wipe your shoes before you put them onto the rack, cutting down on the number of times you put wet and muddy shoes on the shelves.
