Modern living trends, like tiny houses and micro apartments, have forced people to get creative when it comes to storing simple, everyday items like spices. This had led to people to tap various spice storage options, like spice racks tacked to the inside of a cupboard door. The problem with this sort of thing, though, is that it keeps the spices out of sight, even if it does save storage space. A better option is to use some Dollar Tree Plastic Travel Jars in an ingenious way to adhere them to the front of your refrigerator.

Each package comes with three jars. You'll need enough jars for each of your spices – perhaps, at least a dozen for this fridge storage hack – depending on how many spices you keep. The project also calls for Magnetic Buttons from the Dollar Tree, as well as an adhesive. A glue gun or a bottle of all-purpose craft glue will work for this purpose.

Additionally, to keep your spices organized on the front of your fridge, you'll also need the 8-inch by 10-inch DT picture frame of your choice. If you're one for personalizing your crafts, you may find the Special Moments Wooden Photo Frame to be an especially good choice. It can be dressed up or dressed down. You'll also need either some stencils or stick-on letters and a sharp-tipped felt pen to finish the job.

Building your fridge-front spice container

Start by clearing off a space on the front of your fridge. It needs to be at least 8 inches by 10 inches. Next, unwrap the picture frame and take off the back. If you're going to paint or decoupage it to fancy it up, now's the time. At minimum, you'll want to stencil the word "spices" on one of the sides. Next, turn the frame over and glue a button magnet to each of its corners. While that's drying, glue a magnet to the bottom of each of the Dollar Tree travel jars. Let the glue dry. Write the name of the spice on the lid of each jar. Add the spices to the jars. Hang the 8-inch by 1-inch frame to the front of the fridge and stash the magnetic jars inside the confines of its frame.

This spice storage method takes advantage of one of the most popular storage options in small-home living – using a blank surface as a stash spot. Although we're recommending using the front of the fridge for this project, you do have other options if the fridge is already full of stuff. You could also use the inside of a cabinet door or the underside of a cupboard. You'd have to add something like a OUZRETUCU Magnetic Strips to the cabinet to make this work. Since those surfaces aren't metal like the fridge is, the magnetic strip gives you something to hang the spices on in place of the fridge's metal front.
