Vlogger Shares How To Get Your Home Organized On A $100 IKEA Budget
Trying to make good on your New Year's resolution to organize your home? You have likely already encountered a few obstacles in achieving this goal. From feeling overwhelmed by clutter to not having the budget for an overhaul of storage solutions to feeling like there isn't enough time in the world to organize your home, it can be hard to even know where to begin. Thankfully, vlogger Christina Dennis offers a few strategies to quickly organize your home on a budget, using the space you already have. On her YouTube channel, Cozy DIY Home, she recently shared a video documenting how she organized five areas of her home with a few IKEA essentials that cost less than 100 Canadian dollars (That's just $72 USD!)
The key to a well-organized home is giving everything a designated place. Of course, that's easier said than done, but you can utilize tons of hidden storage solutions all around your home to create storage space seemingly out of thin air. That's exactly what Dennis did with her IKEA purchases. To stay under her budget, she bought a few UPPDATERA boxes and utensil trays ($5-6 a piece), two SKUBB organizer box packs ($8-9 for a three- to six-pack), a TISKEN corner basket ($9), and a VARIERA bag dispenser ($5). She also allowed herself one splurge item, the NÅLBLECKA metal and bamboo countertop organizer, which retails for $20.
How to organize your home with a few IKEA essentials
Dennis tackled five areas of her home using her IKEA purchases: kitchen and laundry room clutter, an overstuffed closet drawer, the bathroom shower, and the entryway. Each area took around 10 to 20 minutes to complete, making these accessible starter projects for tackling your own home organization. In the kitchen and laundry room, she first organized her pantry using UPPDATERA boxes, labeling them using a dry-erase marker so they can easily be redesignated as needed. Then, she moved on to a kitchen junk drawer, organizing ziplock bags, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil using UPPDATERA's long utensil trays, which fit the supplies perfectly. Dennis used the VARIERA bag dispenser for reusable bags, finally getting rid of her "bag full of other bags" that was taking up precious floor space in her laundry room.
Adding drawers is a great way to maximize vertical storage space in closets, but keeping those drawers organized is another story. Dennis used SKUBB organizer boxes in various sizes to create zones in her underwear drawer, transforming it from a chaotic, overstuffed mess to a neatly organized drawer holding everything from pajamas to socks to swimsuits. In the bathroom, she stuck the TISKEN corner basket in her shower to hold her essentials and said that while it was the least expensive project on her list, it delivered the biggest impact on her daily routine. Finally, the NÅLBLECKA countertop organizer added function and flair to her narrow entryway table.
Tailor this IKEA haul for your own organization projects
Even with an identical IKEA haul, you can organize lots of other areas of your home that are most in need of decluttering. UPPDATERA boxes can be used in playrooms, utility closets, or garages, and the utensil trays can organize any junk drawer in the kitchen, along with your home office drawer and vanity. It can also serve as a countertop tray to keep small essentials from getting lost in the junk drawer shuffle. The VARIERA bag dispenser can used to store all sorts of things around the house, from socks in your closet to extra toilet paper rolls in the bathroom. All three items can work wonders in a craft room — use the VARIERA to keep wrapping paper organized and easy to grab.
IKEA's SKUBB line offers a variety of cloth organizers for drawers, as well as under the bed and in the closet, so you can select the storage solutions that will best suit your space. Before clicking 'add to cart' on the TISKEN, it may be worth shopping around on Amazon for a similar shower corner organizer, as there are lots of more aesthetic alternatives that will look great in your shower and come in multi-packs that work out to be less per organizer than IKEA's version. We agree with Dennis that the NÅLBLECKA countertop organizer is well-worth the $20 splurge, and you can use it to tackle tons of organization projects around your house — from zhuzhing up your countertop coffee bar, adding farmhouse flair to your bathroom counter toiletries, or keeping spices and other cooking essentials organized and handy in the kitchen.
