Houseplants are undeniably mood boosters. They bring a sense of calm to indoor spaces, while also improving the look of a room. But there is an issue. Sunlight can be limited inside a house, especially for people living in apartments or townhouses. This can be a problem for flowering plants, which typically need lots of light to produce blooms. Homeowners have to rely on plants with interesting foliage to make an impact. Leaves, however, are most often shades of green. What if we told you that there's a plant with stunning rose-tinted leaves? Bonus: It grows fast and is easy to propagate. You would definitely want it in your home, right? Well, that is exactly what a syngonium called 'Pink Splash' (Syngonium podophyllum 'Pink Splash') will bring to your windowsill.

Thanks to its versatile nature, you can grow it in a container to keep things simple or in a hanging basket for a cascading effect. It's a vine, so you can even let it clamber up a moss pole or your living room wall, provided you know how to train climbing plants. 'Pink Splash' adds warmth and a playful touch wherever you put it — your home office desk, the cookbook shelf in your kitchen, or a terrarium in your bedroom. The best part? This candy floss-colored syngonium is surprisingly easy to take care of, even for beginner indoor gardeners. Unfortunately, though, like most things in life, the plant isn't free from flaws. Like all syngoniums, 'Pink Splash' is toxic; its sap can cause skin irritation and stomach irritation when ingested. If you have pets or children in your home, consider other, nontoxic houseplants that are safe for any space.

Taking care of your 'Pink Splash' syngonium indoors

Let's start by discussing where in a room you should put your 'Pink Splash' syngonium. Placement is really important; when the plant is grown in light that's either too bright or too dim, the leaves may lose their distinctive pink hue. The ideal spot for 'Pink Splash' is near a bright window, though make sure it does not get exposed to direct sunlight. Bright light filtered through a sheer curtain is exactly what it needs. As for the growing medium, 'Pink Splash' prefers moist, well-drained, and fertile soil.

When it comes to maintaining the soil fertility, this attractive syngonium needs regular fertilization during the growing season. Feed it with a diluted water-soluble fertilizer, like Miracle-Gro Indoor Plant Food, throughout spring and summer. Get this houseplant's nutrition right, and it will grow so fast that you may need to transplant it into a new, bigger home every year. Just like fertilization, spring and summer are the best times to repot 'Pink Splash.' Signs that your indoor plant needs to be repotted include a cracked planter, less vigorous growth, and roots coming out of the drainage holes, among other things.

You will also have to incorporate regular pruning into your 'Pink Splash' care routine to maintain that plant's size and shape. When pruning this (or, in fact, any) syngonium, remove any long, bald stems and yellowing leaves using sharp, sterile pruners or houseplant scissors, like Fiskars Detail Snipper and Holder. Always make your cuts slightly above a leaf node to promote quick regrowth. Lastly, don't waste the cuttings. 'Pink Splash' syngonium trimmings are easily propagated at home in a jar of water for personal use.
