DIY A Cherry Blossom Tree That Lights Up To Make Your Home Look Absolutely Ethereal

When a trendy new home decor item takes the internet by storm, you may find yourself checking the price tag and running the other way. But the determined crafter takes this as an opportunity to tackle a new DIY home project. You'd be surprised at what you can accomplish with a little confidence and some simple craft supplies. Light-up cherry blossom trees are one of those hot ticket decor pieces the internet is obsessed with. But its ethereal beauty comes at a price — anywhere between $80 and $200 to be specific. Believe it or not, you can easily recreate one for a fraction of the price with simple materials you can get at the Dollar Store.

You won't need anything too complex to complete this project. All you'll need is artificial dogwood or cherry blossom branches, florist tape, brown paint, a small pot, floral foam, decorative rocks, and fairy lights. You can buy a majority of these supplies at the Dollar Store, Walmart, or your local craft store. It's also worthwhile to search the thrift store for materials, as you can often find artificial branches, decorative rocks, and small pots. Once you have your materials together, you're ready to craft your very own trendy, whimsical accent cherry blossom light.

How to craft your own cherry blossom tree

To start this craft, spread out the branches of your artificial cherry blossom. Bunch up the branches and create a makeshift "trunk" with florist tape. Now use brown paint to cover the tape. You may need to mix up some colors for a more precise color match. Next, cut a piece of floral foam to fit snuggly into your pot. Be sure it's thick enough to support the weight of the branches. Once the faux branches dry, secure them in the florist foam. Fill the rest of the pot with decorative rocks, or perhaps faux moss if you prefer. Now string the fairy lights through the tree, following the lines of the branches.

Alternatively, you could purchase pre-lit artificial branches for around $10 (such as these AMARS ones) and combine them with petals from faux cherry blossoms for a similar effect. Start by plucking the blooms from the branches. Then, remove the center of the flower. There should be a small hole left over in the middle of the petals. Now attach a flower to each bulb on the pre-lit artificial branch by threading it through the hole in the center of the petals. This may be a little tedious, but it saves you the time and effort needed to tape and paint. Once your branches are covered in blooms, situate them in your pot as described above. And there you have it! Place your cherry blossom tree in any corner to instantly amplify the ambiance with cozy, ethereal light.
