The entryway is your home's most important grab and go zone, so storage is crucial to keep it functional. While there's a wide range of entryway organizing solutions out there, many are generic. They range from basic shelves to ordinary trays and bins, which is why we love this vintage-inspired DIY option. It's an old picture frame transformed into a key hanger to make your entryway more functional while also serving as entryway decor that's both practical and beautiful. The best part is that you're using affordable items for a custom build.

To achieve this look, you'll need a picture frame, push pin hooks, craft glue, foam board, and a carefully chosen fabric which will serve as the star of the show. Few elements can shape the mood of your living space better than fabric. So, in a bid to nail a vintage-inspired look, go for fabric with patterns like floral, stripes, damask, classic ginghams, or romantic toile. Most of these come in earthy or pastel tones which is perfect because these muted hues will make it easy to blend the piece in with the rest of your entryway decor. You can purchase this kind of fabric from a fabric store or recycle a clothing item you no longer use. Beyond the fabric, follow the same retro vibe when it comes to picking the push pin hook. Something like these antique brass rose push pin hangers will do the trick.

Making DIY key storage look intentional

The process is simple. Take an old picture frame or purchase a cheap Dollar Tree alternative and snap open the hooks that hold its back board in place. Take out the board and place it atop the foam board, then use a craft blade to cut out a piece of foam board that's the same size as the back board. To ease the cutting process, cut both sides of the foam board, then pop it out. Now take your fabric and drape it over the foam board. Frame and trim the excess fabric, leaving just about ¼ inch on all sides. Apply craft glue to the foam board and stick the fabric over the glue, smoothing it out as you go.

Now, insert your fabric-covered foam board to the back of the picture frame and place the original back board in place before securing the boards by snapping the frame's hooks back. Now all that's left to do is place the push pin hooks into the fabric-covered foam board. You can put up a couple or more, depending on how many keys you need to hang up. Arrange them either randomly on the board for a dynamic look or measure equal distances between each hook for something more streamlined. And voila! Your vintage-inspired key storage frame is ready. Now use adhesive strips to hang your one-of-a-kind, stylish drop zone for your keys onto the entryway wall.
