An Adorable Wall Decor DIY That'll Make Use Of Extra Jar Lids

Home DIY decor is often rooted in upcycling products that we no longer have use for. This is not only good for the environment, but also protects your checkbook and can even make for a therapeutic activity. You've probably heard of the many amazing ways to upcycle glass jars into unique home decor. But once you've turned your jar into a candle holder or artsy decorative vase, you'll still have the lid left over. But instead of throwing them away, tops can make for great decor on their own.

The project involves tying several jar tops using string to a piece of wood and turning the tops into hanging wall decor, with each containing a drawing, painting, or photo. Your materials should be pretty cheap. You'll need three bottle tops, a sheet of acrylic paper, a pair of scissors, a pencil, a spool of string, a hot glue gun, small brushes, and some acrylic paints. You'll also need hooks to hang this piece from the wall. If you don't want to drill into your wall, you can use magnets to attach it to the refrigerator.

How to assemble and decorate DIY wall decor using string and spare lids

TikTok user @4plusmama offers a helpful tutorial on how to complete this project. First, you'll need to cut round pieces of paper that fit snugly into your lids. You can place the lids on top of the paper and trace around them to capture the correct circumference. Then cut out the circles and slip them inside, doing extra trimming as needed.

You can then use your pencil to draw designs to paint or color over later. Then, cut three pieces of string, tie them into loops, and glue them to each lid. For a natural look, you can hang the lids from a small branch. If you're decorating a classroom setting, try using a ruler. Glue magnets to each end if placing the wood on a metal surface. Otherwise, screw two hooks into the wall to hang your project.

To put photos in your lids, the process is simple. Find a photo you like, place the lid over it, trace, and cut. You should then be able to easily slip the photo into place. You can also use mason jar lids, which are flat and have no lip. Simply glue the photos to them. This is only one of many clever ways to repurpose lids to add extra interest to your kitchen or fridge, as you can also paint them, glue magnets to the back, and attach them to the fridge.
