When LEGO pieces are used creatively, you can turn them into something functional beyond just a toy or display piece. Consider using this unexpected material to make a stylish backsplash or create DIY art; however, one cool way to use LEGO is to organize charging cords. With a few castoff LEGO toys from the toy box, you have an ingenious way to stop your cords from merging into one tangled mystery of "now what is this for"?

Today's electronics rely on a variety of cords. From USB-C to USB-B to Lightning, each make, model, and year of a device has its own power cable. The cords may be universal in that they can work on any USB-C device, but when you need that particular cord to charge your phone, you want a handy way to find it before you run out of juice. This easy hack for organizing cords and chargers uses a few LEGO figurines (which the company calls minifigures), some strong glue, and LEGO bricks. The project relies on mounting a brick or two on the side of your table or nightstand, so if you don't want something permanently attached, you could use DIYMAG Magnetic Adhesive Strips or even Velcro Brand Sticky Back Dots instead.

Before you get to creating your DIY cord holders with LEGO, you want to make sure you have enough minifigures for the job. You'll be using one LEGO figurine and one brick per cord, so gather the right amount of each. Then, you can turn these playthings into a cute and functional charging holder.

Using LEGO pieces to organize your charging cords

Once you have collected your desired charging cords, minifigures, and LEGO bricks, start by applying a thin line of glue, a piece of magnetic tape, or a Velcro dot to the bottom of each brick. If you're using glue to secure it, you can then attach the brick right to the side of your desk or table; if not, use the corresponding magnet or Velcro dot to adhere the brick to the surface. After checking it's secure, attach the minifigure to the brick using the holes in the legs. Thread a cord through each of the figurines' "hands," and then you're ready to keep up with all of your power needs.

There are a variety of ways you could set this charging hack up. LEGO minifigures come in a wide variety of licensed characters, themes, and designs. This product diversity lets you choose all comic book characters from the same universe, or perhaps all animal-themed. Whatever you choose, consider using a label maker to label each charger with its type, especially if you have multiple devices with complex power needs (i.e., an iPad versus a phone). USB-C cords can have different power levels, and labeling them is a way to know you're getting the fastest charge possible with a compatible cord.
