If you don't have a lot of space to store your clothes, you might have to get creative. Fortunately there are plenty of budget-friendly space saving hacks to make more room in your closet, including over-the-door storage and shelf dividers. But what do you do when your closet is chock full? There's no room on the walls for additional shelves, all of your drawers are stuffed, and the floor is covered in shoeboxes. This is more likely to be an issue for folks who live in apartments, where space is often most limited. Maximizing your storage space in a tiny apartment can be difficult, as you typically won't find walk-in closets, attic spaces, or even enough room for a wardrobe. Maybe embrace a concept that was previously unimaginable. Just as creator @autiosworld demonstrated on TikTok, try hanging your clothes from hangers above your bed.

This idea is anything but conventional. But if you have a creative sensibility, you should be able to pull it off. The look is no doubt campy, and it gives you the opportunity to show off your clothing, as if your bedroom is a boutique. All you need to do is install the right clothes-hanging rods. They need to extend outward from the wall by about a foot, so they can hold hangers. The best perk is that, once it's complete, you don't have to worry about finding art to fill that wall space. For this project, you will also need a power drill, a pencil, a yardstick, and a level.

How to install hanger rods on the wall above your bed

You should be able to complete this project in less than an hour, even if you don't consider yourself a handy person. If you're looking for a good set of hanging rods, Home Depot sells a set of four ½-inch by 1-foot black pipe wall-mounted clothing brackets at $25.99 – these clothing brackets come with screws. To start, select two spots on the wall where you want to put your brackets. The spots need to be high enough that your clothes don't become a nuisance when you sit up in bed. Then, mark those spots with your pencil. Connect the marks with your yardstick, and use your level to ensure the two spots are in line with one another. If the level shows an uneven line, adjust one of your marks.

Finally, screw the two brackets into the wall. It may help to have someone hold the bracket in place while you screw it in. You can use your level and yardstick to add a third or fourth bracket if needed. If you have trouble reaching the clothes, you may need to purchase something like this Greeily clothes hanger reaching hook. You can install these brackets anywhere you need them in your home. For instance, if you don't have a closet near your entryway, you can use one to hang coats — there are plenty of other brilliant ways to use hangers to organize your space.
