Turn Twigs And Candle Wax Into DIY Flower Decor That Looks Gallery-Worthy
Some of the very best DIY decor projects can be achieved with simple supplies you have lying around the house. Don't underestimate the power of a creative eye, household scraps, and a can-do attitude. Breathe new life into otherwise useless odds and ends by repurposing them into something new. If you have a spare vase, yard waste, and old candlesticks lying around, you can easily repurpose them into unique DIY home decor — a charming wax cherry blossom branch.
To create this low-budget decor idea, you'll use wax to craft petals and attach them to a twig. You'll need wax candlesticks, a twig, a vase, a spoon, petroleum jelly, and shimmery eyeshadow or glitter. You can choose any wax color you have available, but colors like white, rose pink, or pale pink will work well if you're aiming for a cherry blossom-like effect.
Start by melting down your candlesticks. If you don't have a wax warmer, you can use the double boiler method. Simply fill the bottom portion of a pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Place a heat-safe glass or metal bowl over the pot. It should fit snugly in place, hovering above the water line. Now you can place your candlesticks in the bowl. Once they're completely melted down, use a spoon to fish out the wicks.
How to create wax petal flowers
Place one to three small branches into a vase. Take a spoon and coat it with petroleum jelly or something similar. Now, dip your spoon into the melted wax. Avoid getting the wax too close to the neck of the spoon. Let the wax cool until it's firm but still malleable. Gently slip the wax petal off the spoon. Attach the petal to the tip of the twig by pinching it together. Complete the flower by forming four more petals. Repeat these steps until you're satisfied with how many flowers you've created.
For finer petals and smaller blooms, turn to the finger dipping method. Take your double boiler off the heat. Allow the wax to cool down a bit. Prepare a separate bowl of water. Now, pinch together your thumb, pointer finger, and middle finger to form the shape of three "petals." Once the wax is cooler, dip your fingers into the water and then the wax. Coat the very tips of your fingers to form a blossom. Now pinch the bloom onto the tip of a twig. Repeat until you fill up the branch with flowers.
Whatever method you choose, you can also add oval-shaped wax balls at the very end of your branches to form cherry blossom buds. Finish this project off by adding a dusting of shimmering pink eye shadow or fine glitter to the center of your blooms. This simple DIY is an excellent way to style vases in your home, adding a soft, romantic element to any space.
