Book Lovers Will Be Obsessed With This DIY Vase For Faux Flowers

For many readers, having book-themed decor feels special. It's nice to have pieces that represent the things you love. If you're an avid reader, that might not just be actual books stacked on shelves but also decorations made from books. That's why a book vase is a stunning solution for a boring shelf — perfect for reading fans. This interesting DIY turns an old hardcover book into a vase for faux florals — it's the perfect way to display DIY paper flowers that look like the real deal. This DIY project lets you create a budget-friendly vase that looks luxe with just a few items, including an old hardcover book, hot glue, and scissors.

To create your book vase, you'll be making loops with the pages that will hold your faux flowers in place. To get this project started, flip to the center pages of the hardcover book. On each side of the opened book, clip together groups of up to 10 pages (you'll want multiple pages for stability), which will eventually be folded back into the book as tubes for the floral stems. Determine how many tubes you want, while still leaving pages toward the front and back of the book that will remain untouched. Then, cut the pages that will be used for holding flowers horizontally, about halfway down the page.

Once all of the pages that you need are cut, remove the upper section of the pages. Then, return to the center of the book and start the gluing process. Take hot glue, line the edge of the pages in your first bundle, and curl those pages back into the book. Press the glued pages together, starting from the center bundles and working out. This will create the loops needed for the vase.

Things to know about making your own vase out of a hardcover book

Creating one of these elevated book vases will give you a beautiful bouquet display, but it will also take some time and patience to achieve, especially if you're doing something like this for the first time. To create your faux flower book vase, pick a hardcover that is older with a spine that's loose from the binding. This will allow you to better lay the book out flat, although newer hardcovers will work as well. Also, the book does not stay completely open unless it's laid flat, which is something to think about when displaying this style of vase.

With this project, you don't glue the faux flowers into the pages, so you can change them out seasonally, similar to how you would swap out real flowers. And with the flowers being loose in the page loops, you will want to be careful because they can fall out if there is not enough volume at the top of the stems. However, if you want to make this a permanent display, you could add some glue to the stems once you know how you want the flowers arranged among the pages.
