If you're curating a luxury sleeping space, Drew Scott has a controversial opinion that may affect your bedding selection. As one-half of the dynamic "Property Brothers" duo, Drew Scott has unbeatable experience designing bedrooms for a wide range of clientele. There are tons of options when it comes to pillow selection, and everyone wants a comfortable, cozy sleeping arrangement. While you might be tempted to go the fluffy feather route, the renovation expert told his followers on Instagram: "Little tip: nobody wants feather pillows in their house anymore."

It was long believed that these pillows will give your bed a luxury hotel feel. However, Scott begs to differ. Feather pillows come with a long line of questions: Can you wash your feather pillows? Will your guests have allergies? Is there anything you can do to avoid getting jabbed? In the same Instagram post, Drew Scott further explained his issues with this previously-popular filling: "Whether you have allergies or it's pokey, this is what happens when you have feather pillows. And then you're just constantly pulling feathers out of your pillows. Or, it stabs you when you go to sit down and you wonder what that was, and it's because it was just the end of that feather pillow!"

The pros and cons of feather and down pillows

Beyond unwelcome stabs, Scott pointed out a few more cons to feather pillows: "It took about a year and a half to get all the feather pillows out of our house. Whether it was on our bed, or it was on the sofa, or wherever it may be. It just kept showing up." Keep in mind, there is a difference between feather and down pillows. While feather pillows have thicker quills, true down pillows are filled with the inner layers of the fowl's feathers. Although it can still cause allergies, down is very fluffy and provides an unbeatable level of insulation.

Scott suggested synthetic pillows as a low-maintenance alternative to down. These Beckham Hotel Collection Bed Pillows are a highly-rated down alternative option that can be washed directly in the machine. If you're keen to avoid pillow toxins, Scott also recommended organic pillows. These Cheer Collection Organic Kapok Bed Pillows are made from 100% natural fibers.
