The Artsy DIY That Gives Dollar Tree Floral Egg Decor A High-End Upgrade

In 1885, the world was introduced to the Fabergé egg, a high-end bejeweled creation designed by jeweler and craftsman, Peter Carl Fabergé. The artisan was famous for taking common objects, like eggs, and turning them into works of art that sported intricate floral-themed designs, jewels, and plenty of gold. You may not have a cool $30 mil to drop on one of these rare Easter collectibles, but thanks to TikToker @juliesdesignsandsigns, we know it's possible to produce an artsy flower-adorned Fabergé egg clone on a budget. You just need to shop at the local Dollar Tree to bring this DIY to life.
The TikTok crafter's elevated Easter Egg DIY starts with an item from DT's spring holiday stock — specifically, the Polyresin Easter Egg Decoration. These decorative pieces stand 6 inches tall and almost 5 inches wide and come in four designs. However, only two of the designs focus on floral patterns. Choose one or both of those for this project to fashion a decorative flower-forward holiday accent for your table. If you feel like you need a big display, follow the interior design "Rule of Three" and group together a trio of eggs into a themed centerpiece.
You'll additionally need some supplies that'll take the DIY from a sweet Dollar Tree springtime accent to a bedecked, shimmering display. A gold marker and some satin ribbon provide the necessary embellishments. Choose a ribbon that's fairly wide and not stiff, as you want it to drape gracefully over the egg. Finally, a hot glue gun and a pair of scissors make these enhancements possible.
Working with the Dollar Tree Easter egg
The Dollar Tree eggs have embossed patterns on them, dominated by delicate linework. One of the eggs features just flowers, while the other also boasts raised wavy lines, elevated decorative dots, and the words "Happy Easter" at the top. You'll use the gold marker pen to highlight the linework. For a triune display, consider mixing metals. For example, use a silver metallic marker on two of the eggs and a gold metallic pen on the remaining egg. If you go this route, choose one of the egg designs for the silver eggs and the other floral design for the gold one, or mix the metallic colors on one of the eggs to create a silver and gold piece. This combined piece could sit in the center of a display that also included one silver and one gold egg.
Once you're done painting the eggs, make a ribbon for the top of the egg. It should be long enough to tie into a fairly good-sized bow that'll cover the top of the egg without looking skimpy. There should also be enough ribbon to allow the tails of the bow to hang down the sides of the egg. Give it a more polished look by trimming the ends of the ribbon to make an inverted arrow. Tie the bow, adjusting it as needed so that both sides of it look balanced. Glue it to the top of the finished egg. Display it on a table or mantel to decorate for the Easter season, and enjoy your new affordable spring decor piece.
Ways to level up this project even more
If your aim is to create a floral egg display that rivals the designs of the original Fabergé eggs, then add some next-level details to the pieces to make them really stand out. For example, many of the designer pieces from the House of Fabergé sat on stands or pedestals. Dollar Tree sells a couple of items that would make cute Easter egg holders, including the Black Metal Pedestal Candle Holder. Painting the base gold or silver will help to create a cohesive look, but to emphasize visual contrast in your creations, leave the candleholders black.
The famous jeweler also added elegant touches to his creations, like little clocks. Although DT doesn't sell tiny clocks, you can find some clock charms online for Dollar Tree prices, like the Steampunk Craft Watch Charms. To make this feature look like it belongs on your DIY, wrap a strip of rhinestone-bejeweled ribbon, such as the Berenlu Self Adhesive Crystal Rhinestone Diamond Ribbon, around the middle of the egg. Glue one of the clock charms over the seam where the two ends of the ribbon meet to hide the gap.
Finally, you could also paste rhinestones in the center of the flowers. This added sparkle draws the eye to the flowers that adorn the egg's exterior. To add even more visual drama, paint the recessed areas around the flowers with a black marker or acrylic paint. While this might detract from the pastel Easter theming, it's a great way to create more depth and ensure your decorations stand out.
