One Simple Upgrade Transformed This IKEA HAGAÅN Shelf Into A Stylish Coffee Nook

A TikTok creator, @elow.home, built their own countertop coffee station from an IKEA HAGAÅN open cabinet and added a personal touch with peel-and-stick tiles. The tiles are an easy upgrade that made the coffee station look so high-end. With many different peel-and-stick tile styles and designs to choose from, it's easy to make this project your own.

Building your own coffee bar is rather simple. You include a coffee machine, beans or pods of your choice, and some mugs, stirrers, and tabletop decor that blend with your nook's aesthetic. While some place their coffee bars on spacious countertops or kitchen islands, small corners make great nooks for this, as long as you maximize vertical space. With an IKEA HAGAÅN cabinet, some peel-and-stick tiles, and your favorite coffee wares, you can make a stylish coffee nook that can make your home feel as cozy as your favorite coffee shop. 

Before assembling the IKEA HAGAÅN open cabinet, you'll need to prep and decorate the fiberboard back panel. At the bottom edge, drill or cut a small hole at the center, about 1cm (0.4 in) wide, large enough for a power cord to pass through. Next, add more style to your back panel by applying peel-and-stick tiles. The TikTok creator used a neutral set of tiles, but you can use whatever fits your kitchen's aesthetic. You can go with bright colors to give you that morning burst of energy you're looking for, or go with something more muted and rustic. The choice is yours.

Assemble the IKEA HAGAÅN cabinet according to its instructions, but leave the two bottom shelf panels and the bottom frame uninstalled to make room for your coffee machine. If you have a coffee pod drawer around 18 inches wide, you can slide this into the bottom section before placing your coffee machine.

Finally, place your favorite mugs, beans, stirrers, and other wares along the shelves of your newly built coffee shelf. If you want to add a little more glamour, add lighting by attaching LED strip lights along the inner edges of your open cabinet, or add a stylish, statement desk lamp right next to your DIY coffee nook. There are plenty of ways to jazz your coffee bar up, but don't skip the peel-and-stick tiles — it's such an easy upgrade.
