If you're a tea lover, you'll likely agree that there's just no such thing as having too many types of tea in your kitchen. However, you'll probably also agree that all those boxes of green, mint, chamomile and English breakfast pile up fast, creating mild chaos in your pantry or at your tea station. When the boxes are torn open or stacked awkwardly, it also makes it hard to find what you're looking for once the kettle has boiled.

Thankfully, TikTok creator @coralhoy has come up with a creative way to upcycle teabags and tea boxes into surprisingly neat drawer organizers. It's brilliant! She trims away the side panels of the box, turning the rectangular base into an easily accessible storage container for tea bags, and wraps it in decorative tape.

The box can then be slid into a drawer alongside other tea boxes, kept near your kettle or stove so that when you pull it out, all your teas are organized and visible from a glance. That's all there is to it! It's a really stylish way to organize tea in your kitchen, especially if you prefer to keep pantry staples out of sight and not cluttering the counter. You're using the packaging the tea comes in, so all you need to pull off this hack is a pair of scissors and some decorative tape, such as this WT Fall Flowers Wide PET Tape. There's no measuring or buying specialty items required.

How to customize this DIY for neater kitchen drawers

To start, open the box and remove all the tea bags. Put them somewhere dry while you work. Carefully and neatly cut off the four lid flaps at the fold using your scissors. Then it's time to make the box sturdier by wrapping it in lengths of cute patterned tape. Start at the bottom and work your way up the sides to the rim. If possible, try to match the pattern for a neater, more intentional finish. Pop the tea bags back inside the finished container and slide it into a drawer near where you make your tea each day. If you find that the boxes move around as you open the drawer, stack multiple boxes together tightly or purchase a simple Songrey Non-Adhesive Drawer and Shelf Liner to keep them in place.

Probably the biggest advantages of this hack are that it is so accessible and incredibly adaptable. TikTok creator @coralhoy wraps the boxes in pink and orange zigzag duct tape, but you can use anything you like to match your existing kitchen aesthetic. For example, you could cover the cardboard box with contact paper. It's also a clever way to use your leftover wallpaper. If you're not a big tea drinker, use this trick to store other every-day kitchen items that come in boxes, such as coffee pods, condiment sachets, or sugar and sweetener packets — anything you need grouped together and accessible. Repurposing the packaging that items come in saves you buying new plastic containers. Sometimes, it turns out that the best solution to your storage woes is something you almost threw into the recycling bin!
