The Beautiful New Rose Variety Named After An Iconic Prince Song

If you grew up in the 1980s, there's a better than average chance you had — or at least heard — Prince's sixth studio album, "Purple Rain," playing on repeat. If the '90s were more your era, then maybe it was his ballad, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," that's stuck with you. Over 30 years after this iconic song's release, Prince's legacy is inspiring a fresh new variety of pink, fragrant rose blooms, aptly named 'The Most Beautiful.' And yes, Prince fans definitely get the reference.

Inspired by his relationship with Mayte Garcia, The Purple One's 1994 track captured the kind of head-over-heels romance everyone hopes to find. Now, that same spirit has been bundled into an eye-catching new rose that looks — and arguably feels — just as expressive. Making its debut this past Valentine's Day, the cultivar name is a nod to a specific era in music. Instead of a classic red, 'The Most Beautiful' roses lean into a pretty palette of blush pink, with big, showy blooms featuring densely layered petals.

This isn't the first time pink roses have had their moment in the spotlight. In 2025, Martha Stewart created a dreamy rose, and naturally, it went viral. There's a reason new pink rose cultivars keep popping up — they're versatile. Pink pairs well with most colors, and the hue is lighter and brighter than the deeper, more traditional rose tones. Whether you go with a 'The Most Beautiful' rose or another variety, a pink rose will add oomph to your garden.

What to know about growing The Most Beautiful roses

Available at April & Ashley, The Most Beautiful' rose is part of the floribunda rose cultivar group, which means it produces clusters of blooms rather than single flowers on long stems. It can thrive in gardens in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 to 11 — a range that spans from cooler areas like New York to the warmest climates of Texas. The best part is that this type of rose has continuous blooms starting in late spring and into the latter part of fall. It's the kind of flower that adds a cheery aesthetic to landscapes, making it easy to work into a range of garden styles.

Like other floribunda roses, 'The Most Beautiful' doesn't demand frequent maintenance, which is yet another perk of growing it. However, these roses do need at least six hours of direct sunshine a day to reach their full potential. They can grow up to 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide in a variety of soil types.

'The Most Beautiful' roses benefit from annual deadheading and light pruning when the flowers stop blooming; this encourages air circulation and protects the canes from damage by wind gusts. Practice effective pruning techniques in the spring by cutting the canes down to 2 to 3 feet. Likewise, seasonal feeding keeps the plant healthy and encourages blooming. While you may have been drawn to this plant by its story, the cultivar's resilience and blooms, which are arguably among the prettiest in the world, are what makes it worth growing.
