Erin Napier's Beautiful Cabinet Color Choice Brings A Touch Of Charm To The Kitchen

Tasked with transforming a house that once belonged to her client's grandmother, Erin Napier cooked up something truly special in the kitchen. Since Alex's grandma instructed both Alex and her husband Wes to keep the living and dining rooms formal, the cooking space was where they could really show off some personality, as Erin shared on Season 7, Episode 3 of hit HGTV show "Home Town." While a larger cased opening increased the flow and a massive 10-foot island was a standout, the most personal ingredient were the sage-hued cabinets, chosen to honor her client's green thumb.

Notably, Valspar's Green Tea Leaves shade wasn't the only element plucked with care. The satin sheen finish — applied on the cabinets, island, and vent hood — was beautifully paired with Benjamin Moore's off-white French Canvas on the walls and White Dove on the ceiling and trim. The finishing touch was an ultra affordable carrara marble-style porcelain tile that instantly made the whole space look more expensive. The end result, as Erin proudly noted on Instagram, was a "decidedly modern and casual kitchen."

How Erin Napier uses color to add charm to a kitchen

The HGTV darling has never been afraid to paint a space red. Or blue. Or whatever hue suits her clients' fancies. Someone who unabashedly loves color, Erin Napier tends to use it to keep spaces fresh. Fun, saturated tones elevate her kitchens beyond the more basic shades of grey. And, although Erin acknowledges that they're not everyone's cup of southern sweet tea, if your goal is to serve up charm, as she explained to Homes & Gardens, "When it comes to using bolder colors in a room, you just have to not care about other people's opinions."

Beyond that, Erin advised, in a separate interview with the outlet, "Figure out what colors make you feel good. For me, they are creamy colors with honey undertones or anything that feels aged." As the home renovation expert confirmed, "I went to art school, so color is the most important factor for me." Naturally, we can tell with each project she tackles.

Add visual interest with patterned wallpaper and backsplash

Of course, thinking outside the all-white box is just one technique in the charming HGTV star's bag of tricks. Erin Napier isn't afraid to make an out of the ordinary kitchen design choice, such as adding an antique piece of art to a range hood, for instance. And while she'll occasionally deliver white subway tile, Erin Napier loves ditching a plain backsplash for a fun patterned style, like the rust and ivory checkerboard pattern she installed on Season 10, Episode 8 of "Home Town."

Finally, when it comes to accent walls, the HGTV star has a slew of great ideas that will transform your home. "We should never lose that childlike love for color and pattern — I use it as much as I can," she told Homes & Gardens about her predilection for maximalist wallpaper. "It works especially well when you have rooms that are mostly creamy and white, but figure out which colors make you feel like you." As with anything else, your personal tastes will guide you forward.
