You can actually make one yourself in a few simple steps. Don't worry though, you won't have to spend a ton of money or labor for days on an elaborate project.

Dollar Tree has all the supplies you need to make an easy DIY hanging hummingbird feeder for less than $10. It's as easy as flipping over a hanging wire basket and attaching a few feeders. You'll be attracting those beauties in no time. To get started with your supplies, you'll need a Hanging Wire Planter and three Plastic Hanging Hummingbird Feeders from Dollar Tree. You'll also need a pre-made hummingbird nectar to fill the feeders, or use the homemade mix we've included below. Optionally, you can pick up some spray paint if you want to paint the wire basket.

How to make a hummingbird feeder out of Dollar Tree planters

The Dollar Tree wire planter comes with a 3-point chain attached to the planter. Each chain is attached to the basket by a small hook. You can unhook each one from the planter, then flip the basket upside down. With the bottom of the basket facing up, you'll see an o-shaped wire where you can re-attach the 3-point chain hooks. Optionally, you can spray paint the wire basket red, the color that instantly invites more hummingbirds to your garden. Take the basket outside or to a well-ventilated area to spray paint it and let it dry completely before moving on. You can see an example of the final product in this TikTok video by xocandicexo:

Fill each feeder with nectar, using either a pre-made mix or make it yourself. Homemade hummingbird nectar is surprisingly easy to make by simply mixing ¼ cup white sugar with 1 cup hot water, allowing the sugar to completely dissolve. Once the mixture has cooled, fill the feeders and hang them from the widest, lowest loop of the wire basket. Three feeders fit well, leaving enough space for the birds to not be overcrowded. Hang the entire thing up by the large s-hook at the top of the 3-chain hanger. Try to hang the feeder somewhere with at least partial shade, so the nectar doesn't heat up too much and go bad.
