HGTV personalities Dave and Jenny Marrs are known for some pretty iconic renovation flips and builds. While most of their projects are targeted toward human clients, one undertaking was quite the opposite. In "Fixer to Fabulous" season 4, episode 14, the couple works on a home for the Pryor family, who have moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, where the Marrses have their stunning home, from Seattle. To commemorate the Pryors' roots, Dave Marrs designs and builds a row of birdhouses that look like they could be straight out of the rainy city.
The birdhouses, made for the family's backyard out of old barn wood, are decked out with a little skyline of the city that includes landmarks such as the Pike Place Fish Market. In what Jenny Marrs calls the "epic bird city", there's a unique bird feeder: a chick-sized replica of the Space Needle tower. Those legendary structures, along with a couple of tall building formations, make up an impressive bird-sized skyline. "There might even be birds that fly south for the winter from Seattle just to come live here," Jenny jokes to Dave.
Fun birdhouse ideas for your backyard
The birdhouses stand in a lineup near the backyard's new dining set. "I know you guys just moved here as a family, and we just wanted to kind of honor where you came from," Jenny Marrs says in the episode, adding that the couple would be reminded of their hometown each time they step outside and view the birdhouse skyline.
If you have a special connection to Seattle, the Marrs' fun bird city may strike your fancy. Or maybe there's another place that you've visited, reminds you of home, or you've just moved away from. If that's the case, you can find brands that offer birdhouses inspired by unique destinations. This set of San Juan birdhouses or this Dutch-inspired birdhouse, both on Etsy, offer the same idea as the Seattle birdhouses in a more global way. Your little outdoor friends will get to enjoy a city you love, plus you'll attract more birds to your yard. They're similar builds to the traditional birdhouse, but with a nod to a place perhaps close to your heart.
