Finding and buying the perfect outdoor furniture can be tricky. If you live somewhere with long and cold winters, you probably don't want to drop a lot of money on a full patio set. Or, if you have limited space, you might not find small and convenient pieces that maximize your small patio or porch space. Instead of looking through stores and websites, why not make your own outdoor table? With just a few dollar store supplies and some glue, you can make an outdoor table that's functional, affordable, and chic.
The idea for this clever hack comes from TikTok creator @leonessalynn. They used two plastic planters from Dollar Tree and attached them at their bases. Then, on top of the hourglass-shaped stand, they added a painted pizza pan to act as the table's top tray. This is a DIY that's easy to customize to make a patio table that adds function and style to your outdoor space. It's not a large table you can eat on, but a small side table perfect for a cup of coffee, a candle, or a few flowers in a vase.
As a base for this DIY, you'll need two identical lightweight wave planters from Dollar Tree, which cost $1.50 each. Then, you'll need a tin pizza pan, which costs $1.25. Or, you can use similar products you already have at home or find at a thrift store. Just make sure the planters are identical and that the round tray fits on top of the planters. Get some rope to decorate the planters, beads to bedazzle the tray, and spray paint to color different parts of this DIY. To assemble everything, use waterproof clear caulking sealant, like this GE all-purpose silicone caulk.
Assembling a DIY porch table
To put together this DIY, flip one of your planters upside down. Then, apply a layer of silicone caulking sealant over the base of the planter, and gently place the second plant pot (right-side up) on top of it. Both planters should be glued together by their base and perfectly symmetrical. If there is caulking sealant visible at the seam, you can add a piece of jute cord and attach it with a bit more sealant around the seam where both planters meet to conceal any excess adhesive. When you're done, let the adhesive cure.

The next step is to use the same caulking sealant to attach the pizza tray on top of the upper planter to act as a tabletop. But before you assemble the tray and the base, make sure to take care of any painting or bedazzling. You can use spray paint to cover the tray alone, or use it to cover both the tray and the planters. Another option is to take the jute cord and, instead of only covering the midway section, wrap the entire base of the planter-table. You can also add some glass beads to the sides of the planters, or to the edges of the tray. When this is done and all of the paint and glue has dried, you can go ahead and add a layer of sealant to the upper lip of the top planter (all along the circumference). Gently lower the tray on top of it, and add a few books or stones on it to apply pressure while it cures.
After 12 hours or so (check the package of your adhesive), everything should be solidly cured and dried. Simply place your new table out on the porch, balcony, or backyard, and enjoy.
