Hide Kitchen Glass Cabinet Clutter With A Stylish Curtain Solution

The kitchen is considered the heart of the home, and it should be treated as such. Keeping it tidy and organized is one way to respect the space, but managing kitchen clutter can be a difficult task on its own. The good news is there are so many useful tips to declutter your kitchen to ensure that it reflects a cozy yet functional atmosphere. However, if you have cabinetry with glass doors, having your dishes exposed in such a way can often make a kitchen look cluttered, even if the rest of the space is squeaky clean. Thankfully, you can rely on DIY projects to creatively (and tastefully!) conceal contents behind them, such as with adorable curtains that can tie the entire kitchen space together.

You can find a lot of DIYs on social media to add a touch of whimsy while also concealing your glassware in your glass cabinet. Getting the right look for your kitchen is about understanding the color scheme and interior decorating style, then deciding the patterns and textures to best capture that specific vibe. Possibly the best part of this DIY is that it's not challenging to do, nor does it cost much. All you'll need are fabric, dowels, fabric glue, pipe straps, screws, and a drill. Not only does this DIY project hide clutter behind glass cabinet doors, but it's also a stylish solution that enhances your kitchen's overall design.

How to DIY curtains for your glass cabinet

For this DIY, first lay out your fabrics on a flat surface. Measure the inside of your cabinet door and mark the frame around the glass window (this is where you'll later install straps), and then mark your fabric so it aligns with the cabinet width. Note that for a laid-back, pleated look, you'll want to cut the fabric a few inches wider than the width of your glass window. Then, cut your long dowel rods to the appropriate size of the fabric and cabinet marking. The thickness of the dowels doesn't matter as long as they fit securely inside your cabinet. Next, glue the top edge of the fabric inward to create a pocket for the dowel inserts. Repeat this for the bottom end of the fabric, ensuring that the pockets can securely fit the dowels, then pull the dowel through on both ends.

From there, nail your pipe straps into the inside of your cabinet door with screws. If you rent or otherwise want to opt out of pipe straps, use renter-friendly adhesive strip hooks instead. Finally, take your curtains and fasten the dowels inside the straps. Fluff out the curtain so it's pleated to your liking.

Styling tips for your cabinet curtains

While they may be hitting recent decor trends, glass cabinet curtains are far from new. In fact, you may have seen similar decor solutions used to create a homey and cozy ambiance. For example, this type of covering is often in kitchens with retro decor as window treatments, such as traditional cafe curtains. There are plenty of ways to employ this DIY in your home, but you'll have to consult your kitchen's decor. For example, these curtain treatments were often used in traditional styles or retro aesthetics.

This DIY perfectly captures the whimsical, kitschy vibe of cottage-core or similar, lived-in aesthetics. In that case, consider bringing an unexpected print to a space, or employing a classic pattern, such as gingham or botanical. As for color, earthy hues such as muted greens and olives, or navy, can complement this type of decor style. Small-scale patterns, like floral or nature-inspired motifs, look gorgeous inside modern, painted cabinetry. Applying this curtain treatment in kitchens with large-scale pattern wallpaper can still work, but consider a small-scale fabric or plain nylon textures to offset the different patterns.
