As fun as parties are to attend, hosting one is even better. Not only do you get to flex your creative muscles creating a tablescape, but you also get to think of decor that would put everyone in a festive mood. Right now paper chain garlands are trending as party decor, but to give them a unique twist, you can upgrade them with a few items found in your recycling bin or craft room. You can turn an old pile of toilet paper rolls into an eco-friendly way to decorate for a party — that is, you're going to make a chain garland from the aforementioned cardboard tubes and some paper streamers.
To make this hand-crafted yet sophisticated chain garland, follow TikTok creator @EmeraldMistStudio's tutorial. You'll need some recyclable materials — a handful of toilet paper rolls and streamers like Wsicse Crepe Paper Party Streamers. Tools-wise, you'll need some scissors, a stapler, a ruler, and a glue stick. If your stock of toilet paper tubes is running low, there's no reason you couldn't use longer paper towel tubes. If you don't have brightly hued party streamers on hand, swap them out for any colored paper products you have in your desk drawer or art area, such as wrapping paper, pretty GvoyTiuue Floral Butterfly Tissue Paper, old newspapers, or scrap paper. Balls of yarn or some rolls of Vgoodall Jute Lace Craft Ribbon would also work, especially if you want to add a bit of character and whimsy to your DIY garland and your living space.
Wrap rings cut from toilet paper rolls with paper to create a garland
Ready to turn toilet paper rolls into the cutest bunting with this super-easy, no-mess DIY? To start, flatten all of the empty toilet paper rolls. Once they're flattened, use a ruler and pencil to measure and mark even strips on the flattened tubes. Cut the tubes on the marked lines to create a series of thin, symmetrical rings. Cut one of the rings open and set it aside. Take one of the intact rings and apply some glue to the inside and outside of the ring. Before the glue dries, stick one end of a paper party streamer to a dot of glue and wrap it around the ring until it's completely covered. Tear off any excess paper and glue the loose end to the ring. Repeat this process, alternating the streamer colors, until you have enough wrapped rings to create a garland of your desired length.

Once about half of the rings are covered in paper, you're ready to start constructing the garland. Loop the cardboard ring that you cut open earlier through two paper-wrapped rings. Staple the ring closed and wrap it in a paper party streamer, just as you did for the other rings. It might get a little tricky to fully cover it with the other rings attached, but with a little finagling, it's definitely achievable. Continue the process until your garland is as long as you want. Hang your new garland along a wall near your dining table, from a fireplace mantel in the living room, or across a large window. It's a beautiful way to add a trendy, whimsical accent to your home and impress your guests.
